In acâ€" quitting the aceused, Judge Caron pointed out that French had apparâ€" ently only acted in selfâ€"defence to protect his wife and family. The case arose from the death of Shinuk some months ago at the home of French. Shinuk, who was a Finlander, came to French‘s home one evening, wearâ€" ied, bhungry and not well clad. French fed him, gave him the shelter of his home and hunted up further clothing for him. When the evening began to grow late he endeavoured to have Shinuk leave, but Shinuk did not zo. Even thneats failed to induce Shinuk to leave, and eventually French seâ€" cured a gun to make his orders more impressive. Shinuk still refused 1to leave the house and stepping toward French, the gun was discharged. T wo shots entered Shinuk‘s body, death following. French notified the police and was placed under arrest. After the evidence at the inquest he was iâ€" lowed out on bail until his trial last week. â€" At last week‘s trial Crown Attorney J. M. Green of Cochrane, conducted the case for the Crown, and Mr. W. A. Gordon, of Haileybury, was counsel for the aceused. Protest has been made to the Ontâ€" ario Fire Marshall regarding the aeâ€" tion â€" of two insirance companies â€" in cancelling the insurance of tenants im the Hunter Block, at Cobalt. After an investigation the Fire Marchal‘s office ordered the removal of certain fire menace in connection with the building. The changes were not made and so the policies were cancelled. The protest is that the cancellation of the policies only affects the tenants who are in no way to blame, and that it is the owner of the property that should ‘be gone after in the matter.
