A woman will spend half her life trying to marry the man she wants and the other half in bitter disapâ€" pointment at her success. The formal opening of the Timmins Sportive, Vigor and Educational Club was held some evenings ago at the eclub quarters, 93 Third Avenue, with a large attendance of members and friends. Mr. Sol. Shankman, formâ€" ally opened the fine new quarters. turning over the latter conduct of the meeting to President R. Pagliari The openmg night gave the Club a very auspicious and pleasmg comâ€" mencement. _ Splendid music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Wilkins, also by Mr. Starling on the guitir, Mr. L. Blais on the ‘cleed. There were pleasing solos by Mr. S. Slack and Mrs. Hugh Warren. Everyone conâ€" sidered the evening a delightful one and felt that the Club was making a very fine start. _ The elub quarters are handsomely furnished and equipâ€" ped and the Club started off with every chance for usefulness and popuâ€" larity. The police last week raided a Moneta boarding house, and as a consequence there are charges of selling liquor against the woman owning the place and a man assisting in running it. Two young women were taken in charge at this place, one of them beâ€" ing one of the girls in the recent series of immorality ecases at court here. In the ‘*song‘‘ line there is a charge of making untimely disturbâ€" ances in a local restaurant, the young man concerned being aceused of ‘screaming,‘‘ among other things. Another case concerns the entry of a house in Rochester during the abâ€" sence of the owner, the young people using the plaee being aceused of desâ€" troving property and taking property away after a ‘‘wine women and song‘‘ party. The Police Departâ€" ment is very evidently making a deâ€" termined effort to clean up the town and keep it clean and moral. Good citizens will support this. The numâ€" ber of cases this week indicates the activity of the police in the work of keeping the town orderly and reâ€" spectable. POLICE COURT CASES COME FROM WINE WOMEN AND SONG. There will be a big bunch of cases at police court â€" here _ toâ€"morrow (Thursday), most of them originating along the lines of the famous phrase, ‘‘Wine, Women and Song.‘‘ There are several *‘*wine‘‘ or liquor cases to be heard by Magistrate Atkinson. One of them also includes women. using the plae troyving propelt away after On Monday evening the Poreupine Ski Club held another enjoyable evenâ€" ing, with a large attendance of memâ€" bers present, testifying to the popuâ€" larity of the Club. The members met at the Queen‘s Hotel at seven thirty p.m. and an enjoyable run was held to the Hayden, after which a lunch was served at the Queen‘s Hotel, followed by dancing until midâ€" night. N The best of music for the latter part of the evening‘s entertainment was provided by an orchestra headed by Mr. Ted Emery at the piano. The next run and regular meeting of the Club will be. held from the Queen‘s Hotel, on Thursday evening, Febhruary 26th. All the members are requested to be present. ANOTHER GOOD EVENING BY PORCUPINE SKI CLUB. TIMMINS S. V. E. CLUB OPENED WITH NICE EVENT. Big crowds were attracted to the Goldfields Theatre Monday and Tuesâ€" day this week, the feature being a vaudeville show that appealed esâ€" pecially to the youngsters. A feaâ€" ture of the show was an unusually clever performing bear.. There were also the usual clever handeuff and chain stunts and other features of magic and entertainment. The comâ€" pany had several parades of the perâ€" forming bear, accompanied by a motorâ€"driven organ, the music from which could be heard for a long disâ€" tance. _ Theseâ€"parades _ attracted swarms of youngsters who were deâ€" lighted with the big bear and his tricks, VAUDEVILLE SHOW HERE ATTRACTED BIG CROWDS.
