A woâ€" man, who also attempted to hamper the police, was another feature of the Sunday, evening event.. Magistrate Atkinson â€" remanded the â€" Frettaoin At the police court on Thursday last the case arousing most interest was the charge of assault made by E. Gignac against Constable Marâ€" tin. The charge arose from the arâ€" rest of (GHignac some weeks ago down the River Road. Gignae in police court pleaded guilty to a charge of being drunk, and the following week, he laid the charge of assault against Constable Martin, accusing the latter of using unnecessary force in ma‘king the arrest. The evidence of numâ€" ber of witnesses was heard Thursday and Magistrate Atkinson committed Constable Martin for trial before a Judge, No evidence was taken for the defence, this being resemved for the trial before the Judge. Constable Martin denies the charge, and has several witnesses for his side of the case. â€" Until the result of the trial beâ€" fore the Judge tin will not be town constable.
