There was a big crowd present, the capacity of the hall being so overtaxed that the matâ€" ter of a more commodious meeting place was a chief topic of discussion. The President, Mr. D. Mackie, ocenâ€" pied the chair, and was given a hearty reception when he called the gatherâ€" ing to order to announce the programâ€" me. The President voiced the generâ€" al pleasure felt at the renewal of the meetings, and gave all a very hearty welcome. There was a musical proâ€" gramme of special excellence. Messrs. T. Huntly, J. Liddle, T. Twaddle and W. H. Wilson and Mrs. Lowery were among those assisting at the piano, while Mr. J. T. Bridges, as in the past furnished the best of violin music for the dancing. The popular oldâ€"land dances, including the Grand Old Duke of York, the Eightsome Reel, the 'I-'lighland Scottische and others, were enjoyed during the evening, as well as modern dancing. Mr. Thos Huniy made a big hit with ‘his cleverlyâ€"renâ€" dered humourous songs, each number by him being very heartily encored. Mr. John Liddle won very decided enâ€" core with a wellâ€"rendered solo, and this talented singer will be looked upon as a decided acquisition to the Society‘s musical ~talent. Miss Jean Roberts delighted . the gathering with a pleasing solo well given, while the duet by Miss Roberts and Mr. Huntly was a specially popular number. Violin selections by Mr. A. Gordon were much appreciated, Mr. Gordon again proving himself a violinist of special talent. Mr. J. Geils was heard to advantage in a pleasing Seottish song, and in response to an encore that would not be denied he made an equal popular ‘hit with a comic song cleverly given. One of the particularâ€" ly popular hits of the evening was Mr. H. Unsworth‘s effective rendition of ‘‘Dapper ‘Dan.‘‘ Mr. Unsworth put life and snap into this song, and in his local parody of the ghorus brought down the house. During the evening a brief address by Mr. W. M. Whyte was another feature that gave general pleasure. Mr. Whyte told of visits to the Caledonian Society at Toâ€" ronto, and of meeting there a brother of the Timmins Caledonians. In his usual entertaining way he lightened his remarks with bright wit, humour and story. Of course, the refreshâ€" lments, under the tried and capable ‘charge of Mr. A. Roberts, were a very‘ attractive part of the programâ€" me, and from beginning to end the opening meeting of the Caledonians was esseemed as particularly pleasing and~ specially enjoyable. The Socâ€" lety is looking forward to the biggest and best season in its history. The next meeting will be the annual meetâ€" ing on Oct. 10th, in the 1.0.0.F. Hall. Macauley gave brief referâ€" ence to the organization of the Caleâ€" donian Society at Iroquois Falls, and on unanimous motion it was decided to extend an invitation to the new Society to visit Timmins this winter as the guests of the Timmins Society. A letter from Kirkland Lake also indicated that a Caledonian Socwty is being organized there. To this Soâ€" clety also the Timmins Caledonians also extended the very heartiest greetâ€" ines and good wishes. The Haileyburian last week says : ‘‘Mr. A.
