Mrs. J. R. MeCracken, of Haileyâ€" bury, was rather ‘badly burned about the hands in moving a basket of shingles away from a charcoal karnâ€" er and so avoiding a fire. Plumbers left the charcoal burner under the platform at the back of the house. A high wind apparently fanned the smouldering chareoal into flames that ignited the shingles and threatened to cause a real fire. (Mrs. MeCracken‘s prompt action saved a serious blaze and all will be pleased to know that the burns sustained by the Hairleybury lady are not likely to prove serious.
