HOLLINGER WINS IN FIRST MATCH WITH LANCASHIRES The Hollinger and Lancashire teams clashed for the first time this season on Thursday last, the Hollinger comâ€" ing out on ‘top in the fray to the seore of 8 to 1. D. Hodgins got the lone score for the Lancashires, and for the Hollinger ‘Peterson got two, Berg and Halley one each, Sathrang three and Jackson one on his own. The play was about 15 minutes old when Berg sent the ball over to Dunâ€" bar who headed it back to Peterson, the latter scoring on a high shot. The Norwegians were playing a nice tricky match. Sistern gave Ford a pass. Ford sent it to Berg, who in turn put it in front of the goal mouth for Sathrang to tip in for number two. The Lanes. could not get out of their quarters, for Warne, Sistern and Stephenson kept them back, feeding their own forwards in great style, the Lanes. not being able to get in their combination work. Berg was the next to score by beating the (ibacks and shot low. The play went to midâ€" field ifor a while until Sistern sent the ball to Dunbar who centered. Sathrang scored from close in, giv< ing Hunt no chance. Sathrang again ghot, Hunt saving a hot drive, the ball going back to Sathrang who scored before Hunt could recover his place in goal. The Lancastrians were working hard now to ‘keep back the offensive of the Hollinger. After working a nice combination on their left, they were able to come close in and give Dedrickson a low one to clear. This was followed by two more shots, but they were unable to score before the referee blew his whistle for halfâ€"time. The second hallf started with the Lanes. opening out their play and after five minutes D. Hodgins worked his way through for their only goal. The Hollinger let loose only to have Uttley clear. The Lanes, went up, but â€" Dedrickson _ saved. Hodgins missed a good chance right after by shooting wide of an open goal. The Hollinger came down again and were awarded a free kick, nd scored. The Hollinger now set the pace again, working the ball from Jeft to right, and got another goal from a pass, Berg to Peterson, in front of the zoal. (The Lanes. went away again and gave Dedrickson another one to handle. The Lanes. had a little of the play now, but were kept out iby Hetherington and Halley and were not alble to score. The play was again transferred to the other end, but the ball was kept clear, Hunt doâ€" ing fine work with the dong shots, while Uttley and Jackson kept out the rushes. The Hollinger kept up the pace and were awarded another goal when Jackson headed through his own goal in trying to clear. This finishâ€" ed the scoring, the final count ‘being 8 to 1 in favour of the Hollinger. THE PORCUPINE ADVANCE, TIMMINS, ONTARIO JUDGE DISPOSES OF FOUR CASES IN 15 MINUTES Mr. Justice Mowat at New Liskeâ€" ard last week disposed of the four cases lbeafore the nonâ€"jury sittings of the Supreme Court, the taking about a quarter of ‘an hour. The big suit over pulpwood between the Poreupine Pulp Lumber Co,, and the St. Maurice Lumber Co. was traversed until October. Another case was transferred to the District Judge. CROWN ATTORNEY GREER BROKE LEG LAST WEEK act Last week while playing ball, Mr. J. M. Greer, Crownm Attorney for Cochrane ‘District, had the misforâ€" tune to break ‘his leg. He is at his home at Cochrane and is making excellent progress to recovery from the injury. Recently he asked for a speedy trial and the case was to come ‘before Judge Caron on Monday but on account of the Crown Attorney being laid up with a leg the case has been adjourned to Saturday of this week. Chief Greer was on his way from Timmins on Sunday to attend the trial as a witness, but at Porquis Junetion ‘Chief Greer reâ€" ceived word that on account of the injury to Cro‘wn Attorney Greer the case would not be proceeded with at present. â€" Accordingly Chief Greer reâ€" turned on the evening train. He will go to Cochrane Friday for the case.
