‘ WORTHWHILE CANDY Mr. R. LeHeup, Inspector for the Children‘s Aid Society for Temiskâ€" aming, was a visitor to Timmins last week, and in an interview with The Advance referred to some of the handicaps suffeted by the C.A.S. work in this district. The fire that wiped out Harleybury last year was a serious blow to the Children‘s Aid Society. Not only was there a heavy financial loss to the Society through the destruction of all their property, but there was also the fact to ‘be considered that the loss of the Childâ€" ren‘s Shelter for the district makes the work of the Society doubly diffiâ€" cult as well as more expensive and inâ€" convenient. At the present time there is no regular place in the disâ€" trict where children may be kept unâ€" til ~proper foster homes have ‘been secured for them. It is one of the first principles of the Chilrren‘s Aid Work that every child is entitled to a good home. The Society does not believe in ‘‘institutional‘‘ life for its wards. Instead, its purpose is to obâ€" tain the best possible ‘‘home‘‘ for any neglected or dependent child coming under its eare. The greatest €are is exercised in selecting the fosâ€" ter homes, the underlying idea ‘being that every child is entitled to the best possible chance in life, to a good home, and to love, care and attention. Naturally, the right type of foster homes are not always immediately available for eases arising from day to day. Until such homes are secured there must bhe some place to keep the NEED HERE FOR TEMPORARY HOME FPOR WARDS OF C.A.S THE GOLDFIELD DRUCG STORE WEDNESDAY, JULY 18TH, 1923.‘ Canada â€" United States Published every Wednesday by Owner and Publisher. Advance. But any reference to the Leo Rogers case gives a severe jolt to any confidence in The Nugget as a source of reliable information. ‘The Nugget‘s attitude recently in regard to the disgraceful aftermath of the Rogers affair seems to be along the style of ‘‘*Hush, thee, hush, thee, or the Black Hand In a recent editorial note The North Bay Nugget says that the words Hero,"‘ have not been removed from the tombstone of the unbalâ€" anced Leo Rogers whose brief life was featured by two deplorable murâ€" ders. Further, The Nugget suggests that ‘‘The Advance ought to stick to reliable sources for its information,"‘ and the additional inference is modestly made that for such informaâ€" tion The Nugget is the one reliable source.
