A. Melnnis, Mayor of T1mmm.s, Mr. T. F. King, Chairman of the Board of Trade, Mr. C. V. Galâ€" lagher, Reeve of Tisdale, and others from the Camp, were in Toronto and interviewed the Government on road question satisfactory results. The Government has definitely promâ€" ised to put the Provincial Road from Timmins to South Poreupine in firstâ€" class condition this year. It is the intention to finish this strip of highâ€" way with tarvia, a type of patented macadam, finish that has given great satisfaction elsewheére. It is underâ€" stood that it is the intention further of the Government to make the whole strip of highway from Timmins to Iroquois Falls with this tarvia top finish. Of course all this can hardly be done this year, but the strip from Timmins to Bouth End is to be comâ€" pleted, work to be commenced imm diately. Some of the special machinâ€" ery for the work has already been shipped to this Camp. Satisfactory results were also obâ€" tained in regard to forest fire proâ€" tection works and other matters, the Grovernment promising the fullest atâ€" tention and consideration. "It is unâ€" derstood the promise was made that the work of completing the fire guard around Timmins will be gone on with at once. WANTON DAMAGE DONE TO AUTO IN RAILROAD CAR A ‘handsome neéw Nash Sedan was wantonly and senselessly damaged beâ€" fore it could be removed from the railroad car which brought it here last week. The railroad car was run down the track to be out of the way until it could be unloaded. During the night some person or persons broke the seal of the car and entered it. The headâ€" lights of the car were apparently doliâ€" Derately smashed in and other damage done, as well as nasty scratches being made on the body of the new auto. It will cost fully $100.00 to replace the damaged parta, but it is not the actual loss so much as the wanton and almost idiotic destruction that is so startling about the case. The new Sedan was one purchased recenth by Dr. Mceâ€" Innis. ANNUAL MEETING OF THE * ~ TIMMINS AA.A. POSTPONED. « On Monday evening next, May 14th there will be a Dance in the Masonic Hafl, Timmins, in aid of the new orâ€" The annual meeting of the Timmins A.A.A. was called for Wednesday evening of last week, but had to be adjournéd owing to lack of representâ€" ative attendance. All the representâ€" atives for the Timmins Football CMlub were present, as were also Mr. W. Pierce, President of the T.A.A.A. for last year, and Mr. J. W. Faithful, Secretaryâ€"Tréasurer. Mr. Pierce, however, was the only representatnx, of ‘baseball present, so it was thought best to defer the meeting until there was a larger baseball representation. This plan wilk work to\the advantage of the taxicabs as well as for the convenience of the public. In past years these jitneys have alâ€" ways been in the way when not wantâ€" ed, ‘but were always difficult to locate rhen desired. _ With a permanent stund they will be as easy to secure as in the cities where the same plan is enforced. T MMING RELAY STATION FOR ARCTIC ExPLORERs Radio Station Here to ‘be Used by MacMillan Polar Expedition. The MacMillan Polar expedition sails from Booth‘s Bay, Maine, on June 24th on the good ship ‘‘"Bowâ€" The crew, consisting of seven men, bope to get within 720 miles of the North Pole and expect to return after a period of about fourteen months. If they are frozen in it will be comâ€" pulsory to stay another winter in the ice and a substantial cargo of ‘highly concentrated foods are being taken aâ€" board to provide against such eonâ€" tingency. MeDonald, a Chicago millionairs to enable the crew to keep in touch with civilization through every phabe of the trip if possible. Inthis Mr. M. J. Major Wilson is a golfer: of high standing and should prove a valuable acquisition to the Town for the scorss who now love the game of golf. â€"BAQUETTED AT mus Impressive Event Saturday Night to Mark Exceeding of 500 Tons Paper in a Day. â€" ; The bangquet given in the Storage Room of the Abitibi Power Paper Co. mill at Iroquois Falls on Saturday evening was a truly remarkâ€" . able event. It was strkaoly noteâ€" worthy in many ways,â€"in fact, in every way. It celebrated the produc- tion of over 500 tons a days in the paper millâ€"the largest on the conâ€" tinent. It was a recognition of the skill and interest of the men in all deâ€" partments and the close and intelâ€". ligent coâ€"operation between the men and the management. It was equally remarkable for the fact that no less than 1000 men were banquetted, and the event was carried through as quiet ly and efficiently as if it had been no more than a simple afternoon tea. Tha ammense banquet hallâ€" used was made ‘beautiful and attractive through the artistic genius of Mr. Heard. The lavish array of wonderful "eats‘‘ was the efficient work‘of Messrs.
