A Convention wWas Cdilâ€" wl for Friday last at Porquis Junetion transact routine business, select a eandidate for the coming Provincial lection, ete., but on account of the Kailure of a representative gathering of delegates from all parts of the ridâ€" ing to respond it was thought best to defer the selection of a candidate. Some important sections, like Timâ€" mins for instance, did not hbhave reâ€" presentation at the meeting. On the other hand, some delegates travellâ€" Junetion for the occeasion. This was particularly the case with many comâ€" ing from points along the Transconâ€" tinental west of Cochrane. f Although the chief business of the Convention was deferred, the gatherâ€" ing had much of interest as a reward forâ€" attendance. Rousing addresses were given by Hon. G. Howard Ferâ€" guson and other leaders of the Conâ€" servative party in the Province an: the district. While Provincial politics received attention, the emphasis was specially given to the North Land and its problems and possibilities. Hon. (i. Howard Ferguson, who is the Proâ€" vincial Conservative Leader was in fine form and made a fighting address. He prophesied that after the election the Censorvatives would again be in power in Ontario and that the preâ€" sent Government would not have more than 15 seats in the next house. If Hon. G. Howard is a good and true prophet (and even if he is not) it is to be hoped that an antiâ€"O,.T.A. man has the seat now occupied by the Atrocityâ€" General.
