Last week at North Bay Judge Vaâ€" lin senteced John Pitt to three months in jail on a charge of removing goods from his store with intent to defraud his creditors, and anothér three months for failing to keep the books and accounts required by law in the case of credit businesses. An investiâ€" gation into the fire revealed the faect that goods had been shipped to a Mrs. J. Ostraka in Timmins, the lady being understood to be a sister of Pitt. Mrs. Ostraka and a man here were arrestâ€" ed in connection with thecase and have yet to be tried ‘by a judge on charges arising from the procedure. The stock in Pitt‘s store, it is claimed, was arranged in such a way, as to was arranged in such a way, as to leave the impression that nothing had been shipped away, one garment in a box and empty boxes on the shelves. The Judge, however, found the cases clear, against ‘him and he reâ€" ceived the total of six months in jail. A further charge of arson against him in connection with the fire at hig store was withdrawn. According to a report from Ottawa, Colonel L. T. Martin,; a member of the T. N. 0.
