Municipalities at Meeting Last Week. ceives further emphasis Trom the proâ€" | ceedings of the meeting of the Union at Sudbury some days ago. The questions that received the most atâ€" tention were what may â€" safely be termed â€" ‘"Old Ontario‘‘ questions. The problems of the North Land reâ€" ceived but seant attention. The exâ€" ecutive is controlled apparently by the old southern towns of New Onâ€" tarioâ€"North Bay and Sudbury. Norâ€" th Bay is absolutely an ‘Old Ontario‘ town in st,\\lo, methods and ideals,â€" even to the extent of lovimg a Sad Sunday when it is a crime to buy a package of â€" cigarettes or drink a glass of coca cola. Sudbury, being a mining town, has more in common with North Land tbwns like Cobalt, Timmins, South Poreupine, ete. But even Sudbury has the Old Ontario outlook. The New North has needs and prospects that seem to be beyond the ken of those who live and move and have their being among «he staid and settled and undisturbed ideas of Ontario. _ Perhaps, nothing will more completely indicate the ideas and attitude than the procedure of the last meeting ofsthe Union of Northern Ontario Bobrds of Trade and ‘Municiâ€" palities. The chief items of business are summarized in the following reâ€" solutions:â€"‘*‘That the Secretary be instructed to wire the Federal Govern ment and members ~ from _ Northern Ontario urging that action be taken at this session with regard to a hounâ€" ty on low grade iron And Secondâ€"hand furniture of all kinds thoroughly renovated and in » firstâ€" class condition, as good as new at much less cost. According to despatches from Monâ€" treal â€"appearing in Toronto, Ottawa and other dailies, Samuel G. McCouâ€" brey, the Mayor of Iroquois Falis, missing since May 1l4th, and for whom the Town Clerk and others at the Falls have been.seeking for inâ€" formation in the past few weeks, was seen and identified at Montreal durâ€" ing the week of June 13th by Mr. Reuben Feldman. Mr. Feldman knew Mr. MeConmbrey well, and according to the despatches he met the missing Mayor on tne street and siopped had a talk with him. At the time Mr. Feldman.â€"did not know that Mr MceCoubrey thad ‘been lost to Lis fri ends and family, and he noted noth ing particularly peculiar about Mr MeCgubrey or his actions: VETERANS HOLDING SPORTS DAYS JULY ist. Throughout Canada this year July 1st has been given over in many towns to Sports Days under the auspices of the eVterans . In the North Land, Timmins, €obalt and Nor{h Bay are among the where Dominion Day events are under the direction of the G. W. V. A.) The Timmins Celeâ€" bration of the First promises to be an unusually successful one this year, while the indications are that Cobalt and North Bay also will dhave big days that day. There is little doubt but that the Veterans‘, with their enâ€" ergy, ability, organization and popâ€" ularity will ‘be able to provide very pleasing and successful events, while there is something especially approâ€" priate in leaving this particular day to the Veterans, so _ that / Canada‘‘s birthday as a nation may be celeâ€" brated=~and observed under the ausâ€" pices of the men who did so mugh to guarantee her safety and dier life as a free people among the nations of the earth. 1 1 ‘‘That the following telegram be sent to Mr. ‘Chas..
