The resolution referâ€" !red to the tremendous possibilitics of the north country between Cochâ€" ranc and James Bay, and called for the immediate construction of _ the line to water port. The reference to the immediate econstruction _ idea, however, was modified at the request of Premier E. C. Amâ€" ong other things Premier Drury said: ‘‘I believe the extension to _ James Bay to ‘be the logical rounding out of the ‘F. T0 BF EXTENSED TO JAMES BAY, PERKAPS Resolution of Mac Lang, M.P.P., Apâ€" proved, and $25,000 to be Spent Soon in More Surveys. will not start for the present, but more surveys will be made. â€" The Government has placed $25,000.00 in the Estimates for this year for surâ€" veys and exploration of the country between Cochrane and James â€" Bay. Surveys have been made of the routes proposed for the extension, but apparâ€" ently more surveys are desired. Whether this is because former govâ€" ernments, under whose auspices the surveys were made, were wicked parâ€" ty governments, and so could not have surreys made up to the U.F.O. standâ€" ard, or whether it is because the new Government feels that something should be done and they do not feel like doing more than surveying the land of promise,â€"well, whichever is tother, only surveys are promised at present. During its months +z production the Lake Shore has had, previous to Febâ€" ruary, what will work out to an averâ€" age of about $25.00 in gold per ton. FIVE CHILDREN FROM BARBER‘S BAY ASSISTED The T. N. O. Railway extension to James Bay being once more in the survreying stage, attention may now be directed to «other North Land matâ€" 'ter\ The people in this North Land will certainly give Mr. Mac. Lang, M.P., every eredit and approval for his efforts to have the railway extenâ€" ded. If he would still further inâ€" crease his popularity in his own ridâ€" ing he might now take up in cnerâ€" getic and earnest fashion the question of the T. N.O. building a short line from Timmins to connect with the C. N.R. at Sudbury. Such a line would do much to increase the carnings of the T.: N.O.; it would open up a very rich and promising section of country ; and it would give much needed service to important settled districts of this North Land. Mr. Mac Lang made out a very strong case for the extension of the T. N. 0. to James Bay; he could make out a still stronger case for the extension of the T. N.O. to near Mudbury. LAKE SHORE HAS AVERAGE GRADE OF $27.96 FOR FPEB. ‘There is an old saying that you have to go away from home â€" someâ€" times to learn the news, which is no reflection upon the newspapers, as they are supposed to be away from home most of the time. There is a case illustrating the old saying, however, in an article in the last isâ€" sue of The North Bay Times. This article tells in detail the story of the generosity of passengers on the T. N. N. 0. southâ€"bound train one day reâ€" cently to a family of five children on their way to Montreal. Mention is also made of the kindness of the C. P.R. officials in the matter. The children belonged to the Desjardines family living at Bawber‘s Bay. The mother died a couple of weeks ago and as the father has been ill for some time in an hospital in the south, the éhildren were on their way to the home of an aunt in Montreal. The oldest of the five children was a boy of only thirteen, while the ages of the other four ranged down to a baby of a year old. They had been acâ€" companied to Porguis Junetion by some unknown person and at that point left for some one else to pilot them through; according to the story in ‘The Times, The boy had a fiveâ€" dollar bill, and this was apparently all the funds there were to see the little party through. _ Trainman O‘Toole, leatrning of the cireumâ€" needed freight that will remove the raflway from the position of a liaâ€" bility which it is at the present time, and make it an asset."‘ Mr. Drury said, however, that he thought it would be unwise to embark â€" upon such a large capital expenditure at the present time. When the time of deflation comes, he suggested, the reâ€" sources of the Province will be of far greater advantage than at present. Premier Drumy is one of the public men who prophecy a decided drop in prices and costs and so on in the fuâ€" ture. Whether he is a prophet cor not remains to be seen.
