There were several big questions, such as the completion of the Waterworks extensions and sewer system, better roads, new main from river, etc., to be dealt with this coming year, and if the people were satisfied with the work of the past year, it would seem that the present Council would be the best to carry these works through. The Mayor gave a detailed explanâ€" ation of the question of waterworks extensions and sewerage, explaining that the delay in getting started on the contract was due to the time takâ€" en in making the necessary financial arrangements. **We are in good finan cial shape now and have financed the work so far without a hitch, but if we had started the work before gettâ€" ing the arrangements perfected, I do not know where we would be toâ€"day," said the Mayor. Touching on the reâ€" peated suggestion of the Fire Underâ€" writers for a new main from the river the Mayor said this would have to be attended to eventually and there must also be consideration of an enlarged waterworks system. A plan that would adequately supply the mines of the district had been suggested and such a system would be a revenue proâ€" ducer eventually. The Mayor also took oceasion to give well merited praise to Councillor A. Brazeay for the time, the interest and the attenâ€" tion he had given to the waterworks extensis and sewerage â€" construction. His services had certainly been of great value to the Town in this regard Councillor L. 8. Newton also had hearty words of praise for Councillor Brazeaw‘s good work and his constant hearty words of praise for Councillor Brazeau‘s good work and his constant attention to the Waterworks Dept. President â€" Bartleman voiced the zeneral appreciation felt for the work of the 1919 Council, and suggested that the ratepayers continue their interest so that good municipal goâ€" vernment might be assured. Mr. A. Booker spoke along somewhat similar lines. â€" Whuile there was general satisâ€" faction with the Council, there was always room for improvement in alâ€" most anything, and to secure the high est standard Mr. Booker thought inâ€" terest should be kept up hy all the ratepayers in matters that conceerned them so elosely. Councillor L. 8. Newton gave words of appreciation for the work of the Ratepayers‘ Association and said he was only sorry that more «lid not tatke an interest. TIMMINS LO.L No. 2552 the Council, there was for improvement in alâ€" , and to secure the high Mr. Booker thought anâ€" be kept up hy all the matters that conceerned of value to the Council through the support given. He weleomed fair en ticism at any time, and he thought that when people took a live interest there was less probability of unfair criticism. In answer to a question, the Mayor said that the Council at its last meetâ€" ing had received the report of the Committee regarding a joint incinerâ€" ator for Timmins and Tisdale and Mountjoy. The cost would be comâ€" paratively small under the plan proâ€" posed, and for the advantage of the Town some such system was necessary The present plan of garbhage disposal would have to be discontinued ‘before long. The total cost of the proposed incinerator was $14,500.00, to be borne by the Town and Township, with perhaps some contribution from the Ontario Government for the unâ€" organized township of Mountjoy. It was too date for the present year‘s Council to do anything but the matter would no doubt be considered by the next Council. In reply to another question, Dr. Mcinnis said that nothing had been done by the Council in regard to inâ€" stalling a temporary septic tank, as it was too late in the year. The regâ€" ular septic tank for the sewerage sysâ€" tem would be gone on with in the b. > * » spring. Councillor Newton, in reply to a question regarding the proposed site for the incinerator, gave a number of reasons why it was the best available. t was in such situation that the preâ€" vailing winds would ‘blow away from the town, and it was conveniently loâ€" cated. He quoted the resolution passed by the Cobalt Board of Trade to show the advantages and disadvanâ€" tages of the T. N. 0., heing taken over ty the Dominion. The Cobalt Board of Trade said that under Domiâ€" nion ownership we would have only one train a day on the T. N. 0. He did not know what authority there was for such a statement, but thought the matter should be fully considered before Timmins made any move:s IHe favrored a plan of pressing the request on the Provincial Government and if within a reasonahlo time no action was taken attention could then be turned to the Dominion. Rome of those present were strongly against taking over of the T. N. 0. by the Dominion. One speaker pointed out that the road was built primarily and expressly as a colonization â€" road. Whatever the faults of the Provincial Governments in the past, they certain ly had more interest in this country than the Government at Ottawa. The T. N. 0. was a North Land instituâ€" tion that might be improved but should not be given up. Eventually it was decided to leave the question to the next meeting of the Board of Trade. Secretary Booker made passing reâ€" ference to the ratepayers who did their ‘*kicking‘‘ in the stores and on the streets but who would not show enough interest to turn out to a meetâ€" ing of this sort. He thought the rateâ€" payers generally should show more inâ€" terest in their own business (the conâ€" duct of municipal affairs) and tken they would likely find that they would have less grounds for any eriticism of oflicrtals. If they would not take an interest, however, they ‘had no right to expect anything in the line of the best service. The meeting adjourned to of the President.
