Dr. Cody to the Haileybury,. Mining School was the first official visit ever paid. by~an Ontario Minister of Education to the Great Far North of this Province. Hon. Dr. Cody expressed himself as most pléasantly surprised. with the wonders of the North Land, and like all thosé who for the first time see this country ‘at close range and with intelligent eyes, he suggested that it would be <well <if© manyâ€"many more in~ Old Ontario could visit here and see the. progress and the possibilties with their own eyes. If a few more prominent men in jand out of <the Government visit ‘here fhnd enthuse over the accomplishment and possiâ€" ‘bilities, after the manner of Hon.: Dr. Cody, Hon. G: Howard Ferguson will have enough backing at Toronto to put in foree more of the plans for assisting development in the North Land, or, on the other lmnd, it will have to be admitted that it is not lack of uml‘erqtamhnw that prevents more ready help on the part of the powers that jbe. In this connection it must ‘be admitted that in the past year or twa the Ontario Government has to a greater extent that formerly shown a disposition to deal more fl'enerouslv with â€" North Land needs. If this tendency grows from a better acqainâ€" tance ~with. conditions and prospects here, then it would pay the North to have the whole Cabinet spend â€"their sunmer hbolidawys and their Christmas vacation in the North Land. Dr. Cody at Haileybury made the definite offer to do all in his power to assist in sécuring for the Haileyâ€" bury School of Mines the neécessary financial aid that should make secure its position as one of the most upâ€"to: date and efficient institutions of its kind in Canada. With regard to the various courses in econnection with mining, he stated that in so far as the returned soldiers are concerned, if the school Board. and all concerned with the welfare of the School will unite and successfully impress upon the Federal Government the importâ€" ance of the work and thus induce the Dominion authorities to .pay theâ€"cost of personal maintenanee amounting to $70 or$80 per man, he was willing to make the definite offer that the bal ance of the expense which would inâ€" clude the upkeep .of the school and CI. n. ) IC( r .l. ® l‘ 5 tl 2 : 7 Brick Work, Plastering Cement Work, Etc.
