Three â€" différent â€" gasoline â€" yachts proudly chugâ€"chugged up the river on Sunday, and all < three meekly drifted back at night. ‘The reason for this was given in each case as ‘‘engine troable,"‘ but there was one other trouble even â€" more _ annoyingâ€"the fHies. â€" Oneâ€" Shakespearean â€" scholar says: ‘""‘How sharper than a serpent‘s tooth, it is to have a black fly just 'helmul your ear." "The hay crop in the North Land this year promises to be especially good,"‘ says Mr. John Graboski. A few days ago he was ‘‘down the line‘‘ and the hay in imost places was unusually â€" promising. in a few places the rain had beaten it down a liftle, but he thought fhat. only a reasonable spell of bright weather is necessary to assure a â€" bumper hay ecrop for this year. A (GGovernment representative is in the North Land â€" preparing â€" motion: nicture views of Agricultural develâ€" opment. â€" Last week he was busy in the vicinity of Haileybury, taking a number of interssting views there, inâ€" cluding one of the Haileybury marâ€" ket. He will likely go to Cochrane this week, but it is not thought that any special visit will be paid to Timâ€" mins, as mining in this distriect so overshadows all other industries that only mining views would be expected here. This is not altogether correct, however, for there are a number of good farms quite near Timmins. For example, the farm of Mr. Harry Jefâ€" fries is classed as close to a model farm by those who have seen it. Chief Craft returned home on Thursday after spending a couple of weeks in Haileybury hospital. _ He was enjoying the Dominion Day holiâ€" day in Cobalt, when he found it neeâ€" essary to go to the hospital. _ The trouble, according to the doctors, goes back as far as two years ago, when the Chief was battered around the chest and back while attempting to arrest four men. He felt the batterâ€" ing at the time, of course, but he did not think seriously about it, especially as there seemed to be noâ€" illâ€"effects after a few weeks. It appears now, however, that some of the blood vesâ€" sela in the chest were ruptured, and this caused the recent illness that laid up the Chief presxous to Dominion: Day. The reâ€"opening of the ruptured blood vessels at Cobalt necessitated his visit to the hoapital. The treatâ€" ment given there, however, remedied the trouble and with a rest of a month or two the doctors promise Chief Créft that he will be better than evâ€" er.â€" His imany friends in the Camp and district will wish Chief Craft a complete and speedy recovery. Mr. Geo. McLean, of the D. Ostrosâ€" ser Co. staff, is spending a holiday in the south. Miss Margaret Boyle, of South Forcupine, has been the guest for a few days of her friend, Miss Jean Duff. Montgomery, J.P., the rate being $10 and costs for the offence. After a time the alien enemies may learn that the police inâ€" tend to see that they fulfil their unâ€" dertakings. In the meantime the fines may help a little in keeping down the tax rate. The police raided a cheerful little caming party on Sunday, and as consequence on . Monday Mr. H. E. Montgomery, J.P., fined Pit Zebruk, Z. Zurgenski and E. Procewich $5 and costs each, making the total tax levy $10.50 in each case. ‘Tom Pretuta who was also under a similar charge was acquitted. The three fined paid up, and all went their ways, cheerâ€" ful and goodâ€"humored. One tragicâ€"eyed local pessimist reâ€" cently said thut there was no chance for anything in the line of agrieulâ€" ture or stockâ€"raising north of Orillia. There is no use, perhaps, in arguing with such a hopeless case, but it may do him good to read the following from The North RBay Times::â€"‘* We mention with a pride that this northern section may be considered in the line of stockâ€"raising. Mr. D. McBenth, reeve of the Township of Widdifield, on Tuesday shipped _ a pedigreed Holstein bull to the County of Renfrew, that there may be an improvement in some of the herds of catitle in the vicinity of his destinaâ€" tion."‘‘ The \’nw'Empire Theatre is to be congratulated and commended for its new feature news service,â€"the Canâ€" adian Pathe News,â€"featuring exâ€" clusively Canadian matters of interâ€" est. This is supplying a ‘""‘long felt want,‘‘ indeed. The unnecessary preâ€" dominance ‘of all sorts of United States happenings has become more less tiresome, to say. the least. Canada is a country that is becomâ€" ing alive to the fact that it has.w1 ithâ€" in its own borders as interesting and important news and views As : any other country on the globe, and in addition the â€" reasonable theory | is growing that Canadians should learn more about their own country. The Canadian Pathe News by featuring Canadian happenings and interests will do a national service by informâ€" ing the people of what there is in Canada and thus suggesting legitiâ€" mate grounds for pride and urging the people on to further progress.
