Telling the same story day in and day out always has its effect in the end. The big city stores know this, and work it to the limit, and beyond the limit. Insole, Sergt. Geo. H. B.; Inhowik, Andrew ; Irving, Gordon. When SOME local business men tell the average man that he can get better prices in Timmins than in Torâ€" onto or Montreal the answer nearly always is: ‘‘oh tie up the bull!‘‘ And you can‘t blame the average man for this answer. Consciously or unconsciously he figures out :that if these business men. had..something special in the way of service or price, they would tell the. peopleabout it definitely. If: they=were <always in position to give good values they would ALWAYS be telling the pecple about it. In other words they Jones, Wm. H.; Jackson, A. D.; Johnson, J.; Jermyn, Chas.; Johnâ€" ston, J. C. would ADVERTISE the fact. And they would keep on advertising as long as they had anything to adverâ€" tise. Business men will do no gocd by growling about the amount of money spent outside the town. It is true that thousands of dollars go each year to the mail order housesâ€"perâ€" haps, unnecessarily, and perhaps to the real loss of all concerned, except the city houses. But growling will not change the matter. Modern busiâ€" ness methods, however, will change it. The old days when people HAD to buy at the only stores here have pasâ€" sed away. Business men must be content with reasonable profits and they must get after increased busiâ€" ness to make profits at all. The big city stores keep theirâ€" side of the case consistently and persistently and tirelessly before the public here. McHale and some others, the people would not believe there were any live businesses in Timmins at all. Advertisers like these keep the busiâ€" ness in town, sad the nonâ€"advertisers are really grafting on these firms for the business they do get. Monkeying with freak advertiâ€" sing won‘t help much either. Usualâ€" ly it is people who haven‘t the money to spend, or won‘t spend it, who are attracted by the cheapâ€"john style of halfâ€"free advertising. BANKG ONLY SUGATLY INJURED Col. Kingsmill Gives Further Particâ€" ulars and Praises Young Officer. Mr. ,Thos. Banks has received furâ€" ther particulars regarding the woundâ€" ing of his son, Lieut. H. R. Banks, In a letter from the Lieutenant himâ€" self the information is given that he had a picee of shrapnel in his arm above the elbow. This was extracted at Boulonge Hospital, and he had leave until June 14th, when he was to return to Franee. A letter from â€" the Commanding Oflicer of the Battalion, Col. Kingsâ€" mill, has also been received. It exâ€" plains itself and is as follows :â€"â€" My Dear Mr. Banks:â€"1L eabled you toâ€"day advising that your son had been slightly wounde, and that there was no eause to worry. As far as 1 can gather it is a small flesh wound in the upper part of the arin. a Your boy joined me â€" just before coming to France and I ean say with all sincerity that he is a â€" splendid officer and has been a decided aequâ€" isition to the regiment. Young, F. J. The aceident happened while out vith a working party, be keing struck by a shell fragment in the arm. The accident oceurring at night I did not see him at the dressing station. He has gone to the rear through the usual channel. 1 rather expect he will be back before many weeks. Yours faithfully, WV . B. Kingsmill. A ereat many people of both parâ€" ties in Canada now consider that the success of: the war service is more important than the success of either party, or of any leader. That is a reasongble view. Parties can be creâ€" ated if they are found necessary, but Canada will never have the change to fight this war over again, or to corâ€" rect the failures of this campaign.â€" Vancouver Newsâ€"Advertiser..
