A sad Drowning `Guile. A very sad drowning accident occurred at Guelph last Saturday, by which Wilfred Neill. son of Mr. Samuel Neill, boot and shoe merchant of that; city, a bright little boy aged about six years, lost his life. He, with a number of other boys, had been skating on the river near Go1die s dam, in which there was a large hole, where ice had been taken out. Young Neill `and a boy named'Rnndel were trying to see how near they could get to_ the hole without getting in. Unfortun- ately they got too close and both were preci- pitated into the river. Rundel was rescued with much diicnlty. but his companion was drowned. Mr. Neill father of the lad, is I lying in the hospital with typhoid fever, and Mrs. Neill is also conned to her bed through illness. The circumstancesmake it one of the saddest fatalities which have occurred in the city for many a` year. Many nerson in Bar- rie will sympathize with Mr. Neill s family at this sad event. A man namedonovan pleaded guilty to the charge or poverty last Friday, and not being able to pay. 250 fine was sent to'ga.ol for 4 months. .
