Special Services Enable Mothers To Go To School MONTREAL (CP) -- Mont- real mothers who hustle their youngsters off to school will soon be trotting along after them, ready for special-classes studies, The numbers are growing and it's all part of an effort to make part-time education as convenient and appealing as possible. McGill University's extension courses are ready for a larger enrolment, particularly of women who are shifting from _ self-improvement courses to .|professional brush-ups. Special-services schools are providing soup - and - sandwich meals for persons in business management classes; reduced fees for mothers of young chil- dren and for retired persons; baby-sitting services, and {courses co-ordinated with tele- vision programs for at-home study. Both men and women may enrol in most courses, but the Montreal Technical Institute has ruled out men for its cookery class. "We found men didn't like to clean up when they were fin- ished in the kitchen," said Mrs. M. E. Traynor, secretary to the principal-superintendent. The institute offers furniture making, interior decoration and sewing and dressmaking, but it also has mechanical and techni- cal courses. More women than men are. registering for its motor mechanics for car own- ers class. The Thomas More Institute no longer makes a division of daytime for women and night for men. It has some tantaliz- ing titles in its course listings --Evil, Silence, The Managers, Of Love and Seeing, Black and Green. Its students may take credits under a special degree program of the University of Montreal. Courses are being arranged for high schools, civic centres, the YM-YMHA and the YWCA and YMCA. The YMCA is offer- ing modern home handicrafts, a guide course for hostesses, gymnastics and "'slimnastics," and creative arts. The YWCA has 63 activities this year, some designed for joint participation by mother and child. Mrs. R. A. Wallace and aes E. H.
