Government calculations have placed the cost-of-living increase in the year ended June, 1967 at two per cent, Coincidentally, the increase is the maximum permitted under the federal formula which hinges principle pensions to cost of living increases. The mini- mum is one per cent. Rise To$76.5 Seen On Old-Age Pensions The two-per-cent increase goes into effect at the beginning of 1968. It will also apply to the federal old-age supplement and to those who receive retirement payments under the national contributory pension plan. The maximum old age supple- ment will rise to $30.60 a month from $30 therefor the pensioner receiving both the $75 flat figure and the full supplement will have his monthly income raised to $107.10. The increase is $2.10. MONTHLY RATE UP Monthly pension ceiling under the national contributory pen- sion plan rises to $106.25 from $104.17, up $24.96 for a full year. But the full retirement pension doesn't come into effect until 1976. Other changes linked to the two-per-cent formula: Maximum earnings on which Canada Pension Plan contribu- tions can be made rise to $5,100 a year from $5,000. Maximum annual contribution to the plan by both employers and employees rises to $81 an- nually from $79.20. Maximum annua! contribu. tions by self - employed people go from $158.40 to $162. The two-per-cent increases in 1968 will mark the first applica- tion of the formula hinging pen. sions to the cost of living.
