The accused, who was em- ployed as a truck driver, was delivering parcels which were the property of the post office. Evidence indicated he took three parcels, containing cam- eras, opened them and gave the cameras to people as gifts. FINED $200 A fine of $200 and costs or $0 days was imposed on Charles' Mann, 17, of Pickering, for driving while intoxicated. He was also fined $20 and costs or five days for having no driver's licence and was prohibited from applying for a licence for 12 months, DISMISSED A charge of 'ving while his ability was iu.paired against Wayne M. Major, 21, was dis- missed when a police officer said the effects of alcohol were so slight he was unable to form any opinion. TWO CLEARED "I don't think a conviction would do either party any good," said the' magistrate, as he dismissed a common assault charge laid against John Ross Fertile, of Wharf St., French- man's Bay. A similar charge against David C. Balsdon, of Frenchman's Bay, was also dismissed for lack of evidence. Both accused had pleaded not guilty. A neighbor of the Fertile family, Charles Morton, ac- cused both men of striking him while he was in his car in his own driveway. A_ counter charge of assault laid by Fer- tile against Marton was with- drawn at Fertile's request. REMANDED Convicted on charges of care- less driving, excaping from cus- tody and having no driver's li- cence,. Roy Kenneth Gallinger, 27, of Liverpool Rd., Pickering township, was remanded in custody for sentence in Ajax court next week. A charge of dangerous driving was dismiss- ed. The accused pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and not guilty to escaping custody. The court was told police fol- lowed the accused at speeds up| to 60 mph in a 25-mile zone in Bay Ridges, on streets where children were playing. When told he was under arrest, he said he was not driving. When the officer went to seek assis- tance, the accused disappeared. When finally picked up, he gave a fictitious name and address.
