ALDWINCKLE "Every woman has a role to fill and I think mine is that of a home maker," says Mrs, James Potticary, wife of the Liberal candidate for Oshawa riding. "This Joes not mean that the daily routine is a series of dull chores. A woman can exercise her creative talents and find a_ real sense of achievement in cooking inter- esting meals within the food budget and devising her own clothes." Tall and attractive, Mrs. Pot- ticary said she enjoyed making her own clothes. "Firstly, be- cause I'm tall and ready-made things are usually too short for me and secondly because it cuts down expense and every woman gets a sense of satisfac. tion out of that." MARRIED IN TORONTO Jim and Phyllis Potticary were married ia Toronto in 1949. He had just graduated from university and she was working in Eaton's Employ- ment office. They moved to Montreal where she worked for a while in Eaton's Travel de- partment. Jim's mother, Mrs. Hamilton Potticary, a semi-in- valid, made her home with em. In 1956, Jim's insurance firm moved him to Sherbrooke, Que- bec, and then to Port Credit. During this time the family grew to five with the addition of | a son, Michael and daughter | Mary-Anne, now ten and seven years of age. In 1961, as the result of a tragic accident, the family suddenly became nine. Jim's sister and ner husband, ' two children and an unborn baby were all killed in an auto- mobile accident near Streets- ville and the Potticarys took the remaining four children into their home. So for a few years ae Potticary's hands were ull. "We felt that the family should be kept wgether,"' Mrs. Potticary said, "and now that they are practically grown up, we feel that the years of caring for them has been such a shori time in our lives. Susan who is 21 has just vraduated from Trent University; Heather, 19, is in her second year of nursing training; Paul, 18, is at Camp Borden, making the army his career, and Peter, 12, is still with us. Jim's mother died four years ago."' MORE LEISURE So, once again, Phyllis Potti- cary finds she has a little more time for reading and outside in- terests. Her husband came to Oshawa in 1964 and she and the family followed in 1965 when THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursday, October 12, 1967 95 DEDICATED es 'SOCIAL & PERSONAL |i. ttn. wien tar Education ei, an | , Mr, and Mrs. William McMul- 723-3474 for W' -- cepen a: DOpRTOntte lan, Sarnia; Michael Roberts, Chatham; Miss Judy Mahoney, The Phi Omega Chapter of| Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Randall,/London, Ontario; Mr. and Mrs. Beta Sigma Phi held its reg-|Adelaide Avenue West, welcom-|Phillip Cassidy, Ste.
