EAST DIAL 723-5278 HITS RUNS If the World Series goes the fimit, St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox will both be banking on strong right arm pitching te lock up the final win. Few pitchers in World Series history have had opportunities to win three games in one series but if this one goes the limit there'll be two men with this chance, Bob Gibson of the Cards and Jim Lonborg of the Sox. If both pitch to their previous form, it should be a thriller reminiscent of the old pitching duels between such stars as Bob Feller and Hal Newhouser; Feller and Allie Reynolds; War- ren Spahn and Robin Roberts. Teams today seldom pit their aces against each other but in the seventh game of a World Series there's no tomorrow. Gibson will be going with § three days' rest, Lonborg with two, but neither appeared to work too hard in his last outing. And there's a long rest before they make another start. Boston's hopes in a seven'® game will depend on Carl Yastrzemski's ability to hit Gib- son while the Cardinals will have to have Orlando Cepeda in a hitting mood. Yaz has hit well in the series but Cepeda hasn't been knocking down any walls. He's way overdue.
