Lou Brock couldn't steal any bases against Elston Howard. The ex-Yankee catcher was injected into the line-up to cut down Brock's pilfering, with his fine arm. He didn't need it, Brock never reached first base, but Howard did do a great job in "calling the shots' for his pitcher. The scene shifts to St. Louis now and if the weatherman co-operates, the next three afternoons should produce more of this exciting entertainment. SPORTS FANS here are once again very much caught AWA TIMES, Friday, October 6, 1967 ee SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell sociate Sports Editor up in the annual Thanksgiv- ing weekend program of OASA All-Ontario champion- ship playdowns. This could prove the greatest season in Oshawa's glamorous softball history. Brooklin Concretes lost out 3-2 in 10 innings to Merlin, but all other 'local teams" are coming down the home stretch to the wire. Oshawa Jaycee Juveniles won their All-Ontario title. Scugog Cleaners play the sec- ond game of the Junior 'A' finals in Sarnia tomorrow night at eight o'clock and we don't think there'll be a third game. Port Perry Midget 'B' boys play their second game in Smithville tomorrow night also. They lost the first game of almost every playoff series this season, but came back to win the next two. HERE AT HOME, the ac- tion is at Alexandra Park to- morrow afternoon and eve- ning, in the All-Ontario Sen- ior 'B' finals; with Oshawa Gale Lumber meeting Sault Ste. Marie for the second sea- son in succession. The "Soo" team is coming in tomorrow morning and the series will open at 3:00 o'clock, with the second game of the series scheduled for Saturday night, at eight o'clock. Should it go the limit, the third game will b: played Sunday afternoon. And that leaves Sunday night free for the Generals' open- ing game of the OHA Junior 'A' schelule, with the highly- rated Kitchener Rangers starting the season off at 7:30 o'clock. OSHAWA "PAMS" are leaving for Kapuskasing early this evening, via cars. It's one of the finest parks we've ever seen, a huge complex that includes two diamonds, one with ex- cellent floodlights, a swim- ming pool, tennis courts, a la- crosse-hockey box and splen- did dressing room facilities. Pams pounded Bob Eccles and gave pitcher Bob Mason brilliant support, for a well- deserved win. And there were over 200 Oshawa softball fans on hand, the "regulars" which includes the wives and Pam supporters, plus most of the Gale Lumber and Scugog Cleaners teams, along with representation from Brooklin Concretes, Jaycees, Cadillac Billiards, City and District officials, etc. A splendid show of support -- which was thor- oughly appreciated by the Pam team. They open their series with one game in Kap- uskasing tomorrow night and the second on Sunday after- noon. «SPORT TODAY FOOTBALL Oshawa High School Leag- ues: -- (Junior) -- O'Neill CVI vs Eastdale CVI; at East- dale Campus, 4:00 p.b.
