O'Neill C Along with many new names and faces, there has been quite a bit of excitement in the past few weeks in the mellow, old halls of O'Neill. Last week we had an exciling and unusually clean election campaign. Amid the mountain- ous pile of torn paper hats and discarded posters, our new cab- inet emerged. At the head of the long table fs new PM Gord Lewis, and beside him is Deputy PM Saily McDonald. Minister of Publica- tions is Jane McCujiah; Minis- ter of Finance and Justice is Murray Farncombe; Minister Without Portfolio is Duncan Vi- Bowman Bowmanville High School is where the action is! In the sports scene: Girls' Basketball: Both senior and junior girls were tri- umphant over Courtice in their recent exhibition game. On Oct. 10, they challenge Henry Street High in Whitby. Good Luck, girls! On the football scene: Sept. 27 Bowmanville's juniors de- feated Henry Street in their} first game by the lop-sided| score of 34 to 6. Charles Cat- trau scored three touchdowns, John Froats one touchdown, and three converts, Jerome Billet one touchdown and Mike Dillon one touchdown. Well done, Redmen! Sept. 29, Bowmanville's Sen- fors lost 34 to 19 to MCVI, Larry TALK ollegiate pond, and Secretary of State 1s) Anne Bishop. Congratulations are extended to our brand new Cabinet. The great, pulsating sounds of the Last Remains entertained a large crowd at a very suc- cessful Election Dance last Fri- day. There also seemed to be much of that scarce commodity, School Spirit, in evidence. As if that weren't enough, our fabulous senior football team is on a winning streak! Good work boys, and keep it up. We are all hoping for a COSSA championship this year! --CAROLE HOOKER ville High Simpson made two touchdowns, Bill Morrison one, and Guy Parker completed a convert. What is defeat? Nothing but education, nothing but the first step to something better--VIC- TORY! The results of the elections held last week were as follows: Prime minister, Ken Karpiak. Ken is in grade 12, and was minister of finance last year. He is an honor student, and we are looking forward to a good year with him as PM. Deputy prime minister is Sue Neal, grade 13, also an honor stu- dent, and a former member of parliament from last year. Sec- retary of state, Dave Segal, is a football player, honor student, and a member of the school! band, from grade 11. Alan Monks is minister of finance,| school's track stars. He would have played football, but an accident made that impossible. Both Dave and Alan are lan- guage students. She is one of the hard-working members of our school. Cheryl Imeson is the minister of publications, and from grade 12 business and commerce, She has had exper- ience on the Haggis, and in some clubs, as well as experi- ence in the business world. Min- ister of organizations is Brian Robinson, grade 12, who will do a good job getting our clubs going again this year. With this cabinet, our parliament The Shades of Difference played at the dance last Friday when the election results were jannounced. We can be very proud of this local band, from our school, who did a very good job. Question of the week: When is the Pep Club going to start adapt speech at the election assembly. Central Collegiate Last week was action week at Central. It was election time again. The halls and gym were covered with campaign posters. Central's student body is gov- erned by the Student Council which is comprised of an ex- ecutive and_ representatives from all forms, The parties consist of five members each and when voting day arrives you mark your ballot for the party of your choice. This year's parties were call- ed the "Clubs'" and "Spades". During the week each party held one rally whereby they hoped to gain supporters. Many attended at noon hour to listen to the planks and enjoy the entertainment. An assembly was the high point of the week. All members running for office were intro- duced, speeches were made out- lining platforms and rebuttals by campaign managers ly enthusiastic and waved large signs which they no doubt had taken great pains to make. This also helped to liven up the assembly. The dance on Friday night was the finishing touch for elec- tion week. Music was provided by the Sceptres from. Toronto. The winning party was an- nounced towards the latter part of the evening, being the "Spades"; members including: President, Andy Cherkas; vice- president, Maureen Lee; secre- tary, Joanne Locke; treasurer, Terry Nicholas and organizer, John Vetzel. Congratulations. Central should see a successful year, Other highlights at Central include a car wash being held on Oct .21 by the GAA at the service station on the corner of Gibb and Simcoe.
