He was a resident of Oshawa since 1914 with the exception of the period from 1937 to 1965 when he operated a_ jewellery store with his brother at Gerald- ton, Ont, Active in musie circles, Mr. Von Gunten was a former mem- ber of the Oshawa Citizens' Band. He was once bandmaster of the Bowmanville Legion Band and the Orono Citizens' Band while in Geraldton organized a band known as the Geraldton Goldfields Band of which he was the bandmaster. He is survived by ' three sisters, Miss Helen Von Gunten and Mrs. James Ashby (Carol Ann) of Oshawa, and Mrs. How- ard Spencer (Elissa) of Canton Pa.; five brothers, John, Jules, Samuel and Arthur of Oshawa and Charles of Geraldton; his stepmother, Mrs. Florence Von Gunten of Oshawa; 15 nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
