The boys are taught the concepts of good citizenship and character and trained in the habits of observation, obedience and self-re- liance, inculating loyalty and concern for others. It costs between $75,000. and $80,000. per year to operate the Scout movement in Oshawa. The organization has to raise within its own ranks the extra funds not provided by the Communitv Chest. 80,000 admissions were clocked at the swim- ming pool this past year. 15,000 campers camped at Samac in one year. 1,125 were en- rolled for swimming instruction. 80% gradu- ated. 2,500 man hours are donated each week by adult workers. $20.00 per week or less will provide a boy with one week at Scout Camp compared to $100.00 -- $150.00 per week at a private camp. This movement provides opportunities for girls to have fun and adven- ture, to prepare themselves to lead happy and useful lives.
