(Oshawa Times Photo) Intermediate "B" Club Organized In Whitby By CLIFF GORDON WHITBY -- A_ group of hockey enthusiasts have organ- ized an Intermediate "B' Hoc- key Club in Whitby. At a meeting held in the Whitby Arena, an executive was elected to handle the business of getting the spade work done for the coming year. The ex- ecutive while elected, is serv- ing on a temporary basis until things are finalized. Elected as president is Dave Godfrey; vice president is Roy Howe; secretary is Ron Moore with Don Tebble as treas- urer. Named to the board of direct- ors are Wayne Stark, Garry Kennedy, Ivan Terry and Mike Gray. Whitby will be grouped in a seven, and possible an_ eight- team league. The "B" teams in the league would be Port Hope, Uxbridge and Whitby, with "C" teams coming from Port Perry, Little Britain, Wood- ville, Sunderland and Newcastle. This group will be known as the 'Western group with Kings- ton, Belleville, Trenton, Picton, Napanee and Campbellford mak- ing up the Eastern section. | If the Western group is a) seven - team league, the teams) |will play a 30-game schedule.| \If eight teams enter, they will play a total of 28 league games. No definite source of sponsor- ship has come to light but the enthusiasm of the fellows soon came forth as funds for bond and entry were needed immed- iately. This did not prove to be any problem as the fellows who attended put up the needed cash, The "home" night for the Whitby team will likely be Wed- nesday night with Thursday as an alternative. Their colors will be blue and white. PRACTICE ON TUESDAY Brad Gordon has been ap- pointed as acting - manager jand coach to get the team roll: ing. They will hold their first work- out on Tuesday night at the Whitby Arena starting at 8:30 p.m. Any player living in the town of Whitby who feels he has the ability to play Inter- mediate hockey, is asked to at- tend. Manager Gordon would like to have 40-50 fellows mak- ing a bid for the team. NDP Candidate Attacks Delay In Students Rates PICKERING (Staff) -- The overnment's fare rates for stu- dents on the booming GO tran- sit system came under fire from NDP candidate Thomas Edwards at a meeting held at the home of Pat Murphy in Pickering village. Mr. Edwards, who is contest- ing the riding of Ontario South in the provincial election, told the group that Premier Robarts had announced a delay in the reduction of GO Train fares for students. Mr. Edwards called this "a typical Tory trick," in that the government had an- nounced that $500,000 loans would be given to industries locating in northern Ontario. Mr. Edwards said this was "giving with one hand and tak- ing away with the other." He told the audience that this was "probably the first government manipulation" and "'the first effort to pay for its promise." He said he had talked with Western Hemisphere Boycotts Cuba Ships WASHINGTON (Reuters)-- Western Hemisphere foreign ministers Sunday night voted to boycott all ships carrying goods to and from Cuba. The boycott decision was con- tained in an over-all resolution hammered out during a three- day Organization of American States meeting here and pre- sented to its final session Sun- day night. The main resolution con- demned the regime of Fidel Castro and its support of sub- version in Latin America and called on OAS member coun- tries to further isolate Cuba from the outside world. Twenty of the 21 member countries attending the meeting favored the over-all resolution with Mexico abstaining. Chile, Ecuador, Colombia and Uyu- guay joined Mexico in abstain- ing on the shipping boycott pro- posal. LOSE BLACK-LISTING BID The U.S. lost a bid for hemi- sphere blacklisting of non-Com- munist firms doing business with Cuba. Under the shipping proviso non-Communist vessels going to Cuba would be denied fuelling facilities in Latin American ports and would get no govern- ment-financed cargoes. Aicted ther economic sanctions would not work and U.S. officials acknowledged that a 1964 OAS ban on most hemisphere trade and transportation links with Cuba did not stop Castro's enthusiasm for exporting revo- lution. | The Unitde States and some) Latin American countries have discouraged through diplomatic pressure an unknown quantity of trade credits for Cuba from countries outside the hemi- sphere. New diplomatic approaches were expected to be made to the major free world countries trading with Havana such as Canada, Spain, Britain, France, West Germany and Japan. LATINS MORE UNIFIED Despite the differences reflected in the abstaining votes, U.S. State Secretary Dean Rusk said the meeting demonstrated that Latin Ameri- can countries are more unified and more determined than ever before to ensure that Cuba does expensive form of travel." the federal government an- nouncement that it is unlikely that the federal health scheme will be implemented on July 1, 1968, "as promised." many students at the Picker- ing GO Station, and they were anxiously awaiting "a saving or economy in this efficient but Mr. Edwards compared the announcement of the delay to|With pop music.
