Grey County Protests Paving OWEN SOUND (CP)--Grey County council has voted to send Premier John Robarts and Highways Minister G. F. Gomme a motion protesting allegations that a road had been paved as a favor for a Beaver Valley ski resort opera-| or. E. C. Sargent, Liberal MPP for Grey North, said Sept. 2 that the premier had arranged to pave a highway past the Tal- isman ski resort at Kimberley, operated by Alex Graydon. Mr. Sargent described the road, being built by the depart- ment of highways, as a "glar- ing piece of manipulation of public funds." Reeve David McNicholl of Collingwood Township said in an interview: council's original jrequest to have the road devel- }oped was made~in 1959, four years before the Talisman property was purchased by Mr. Graydon. A. jC, Bennett dam Thursday in a tribute - filled ceremony held 600 feet above the winding river which is about to be harnessed to the industrial needs of man. A monumett, in the shape of} an arch leading to the top of |the dam, was unveiled by Lt.- Gov. George Pearkes of B.C., River Dam B.C. Premier "service of the people of British Columbia." Dr. Gordon Shrum, co - chair- man of the provincially - owned B.C, Hydro and Power Authori- ty, praised the premier, '"'whose imagination and vision made this possible." Peter Kiewit, president of a consortium of firms involved 2 the $73,200,000 contract to build the dam, praised Dr. Shrum jand hydro authority officials for who dedicated the dam to the! having ' 'every virtue but gener- osity."" His comment was greeted with wide grins by the premier and Dr. Shrum. Mr. Kiewit explained he was referring to the thin margin of profit the companies were working on. B.C. still has not received the $12,000,000 owed her by the fed- eral government for completion of the Duncan Lake dam July 31, under agreement of the Columbia River treaty, said Mr. Bennett.
