The sources said the meeting was prevented by political and protocol difficulties. Officials in Paris said ~Mon- day reports in the press that de Gaulle threatened to cancel his scheduled week-long Polish visit if he could not meet the cardinal was unfounded. They said then the issue had not been settled. Asked about a possible meet- ing between the French presi- dent and Cardinal Wyszynski, a Polish foreign ministry spokes- man said: "No such meeting figures in the official program." Relations between the church and state in Poland have varied from bare tolerance to open hostility for some 20 years. Communists Ask UN Seat For China UNITED NATIONS (AP)-- The annual campaign to seat Communist China in the United Nations has not even started yet, and its failure is being predicted already. Communist sources said Sec- retary - General U Thant would get a request from some non- aligned and Communist 'coun- tries this week that the General Assembly convening Sept. 19 should take up an item titled Restoration of the Lawful Rights of the People's Republic of China in the United Nations. Debate on that subject in recent years has ended with the defeat of a resolution aimed to recognize Peking representa- tives as "the only lawful repre- sentatives of China to the United Nations" and to oust the Chinese Nationalists from all UN bodies, Pro-Nationalist diplomats forecart that. it will be voted dow by about the same mar- gin as last year. The margin against the reso- lution at that time was 57 to 46, with seven abstentions. That 'was much better for the Nation- alist side than the year before, when a similar resolution failed on a 47-to-47 tie, with 20 absten- tions. The assembly has ruled that a two-thirds vote is needed to. make a change. Clairtone Sound Loses Money TORONTO (CP)--A loss of $799,295 for the six months ended June 30, compared with a loss of $91,369 a year earlier, has prompted Clairtone Sound Corp. Ltd. of Toronto to with- draw its application for listing on the American Stock Exchange. Peter Munk, president, said first-half results reflect a num- ber of negative factors but pri- marily a marked contraction in the Canadian colot TV market. Mr. Munk said company directors intend to reconsider their decision on the American Stock Exchange . during 1968 1967 are available. Sales were $7,130,868 for the half compared to $3,490,201 last year. Western Gets New Chancellor LONDON, Ont. (CP) -- Ap- pointment of Dr. Albert W.
