In a letter to council, the Pickering District High School Bozrd said it proposed to build the 32 - classroom addition for completion by September, 1969. A government vocational grant would pay for $1,229.462 of the estimated cost leaving $1,723 768 to be debentured by the three participating munici- palities, Pickering Township, Ajax and Pickering Village. 'Township ratepayers would pay for about 66 per cent of the de- bentured amount. Reeve Clifford Laycox said he would like further clarifica- tion from the high school board in its need estimates. Coun, John Williams said he did not doubt the need for the new addition but said the board had not included the addition in its five-year capital fore- cast, Coun. Ronald Chatten re- ferred the matter back to the finance committee. Reeve Laycox said the letter~ from the board was beautiful but contained nothing, he said he had long advocated a pro- posed measure by the Smith Report that school boards levy their own taxes. The proposed addition would increase the student accommo- dation at the school from 1105 to 1875 with the addition cost- ing an estimated $3,835 per stu- dent place. ; Council agreed that the high school board should furnish it with more information before a resolution approving the addi- tion is passed.
