Ken- nedy in 1963. CBS said its own investigation supports the "'basic finding" of the Warren commission, which conducted the official investiga- tion into the Dallas assassina- tion, and "significantly" weak- ens '"'a-central contention of the critics" --that Oswald would not have had enough time to fire three shots. CBS aired its findings in an hour-long show moderated by Walter Cronkite. Sunday night, the first of a four-part series on its investigation. The news department said it concluded: 1. "That a Mannlicher-Car- cano rifle can be fired at least as accurately and rapidly--and probably more--as the commis- sion believed. 2. "That the first shot was fired from Dallas' Texas School Book Depository Building sooner than the Warren com- mission said. 3. "That the amateur film taken by Abraham Zapruder was quite possibly running slower than the commission thought. 4. "That the shot that Gover- nor Connally of Texas insists he heard missed its mark.' Two Executed In Damascus DAMASCUS (Reuters) -- Two former Syrian army officers were executed by a firing squad today after being found guilty of high treason. An official announcement said a special military tribunal Sun- day night sentenced former Ma- jors Selim Hatouns and Badr Juma's to death "for plotting to topple the Syrian regime" with the help of the United States and "world imperialism" during the recent Middle East war. The trial of the two men started last Friday. Hatoum, accused of having led an abortive coup attempt Sept. 8, fled to Jordan when that plot was crushed. He :returned to Syria during the war with Israel and was ar- rested with Juma'a and ac- cused of attempting a second coup in which the main accom- plice was said to be the United States, Armed Force Invades Isle LONDON (Reuters) -- An armed force of about 30 uni- formed men landed by boat on the eastern Caribbean island of Anguilla which recently rebelled against the central government of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla, offi- cial sources here said Sunday. There was no immediate: offi- cial information on the purpose of the landing or the composi- tion of the force. But a press report from the area said it was an attempt by the St. Kitts gov- ernment to crush the revolt. Anguilla declared itself inde- pendent of the central authority May 31 and armed islanders evicted a 17-man police force from St. Kitts which was sta- tioned there. The three-island group was given internal self-government as a state associated with Brit- ain'in February. BRIDGE TOWN, Barbados (Reuters)--The Barbados Sun- day News says Premier Robert Bradshaw of St. Kitts has re- jected an offer from the govern- ments of Barbados, Guyana, Ja- maica and Trinidad to send a fact-finding mission to investi- gate the political crisis in St. Kitts,Nevis-Anguilla. The hewspaper says the com- mission would have been com posed of impartial observers drawn from the independent Commonwealth countries. Its job would 'have been to iscover the reasons for the uble between St. Kitts and the rebellious neighboring is- land of Anguilla and to arbi- trate in the dispute. Hussein Adamant NEW YORK (AP)--King Hus- sein of Jordan said Sunday the Middle East war was inevitable and that, it now is up to Arab leaders to reconstruct "an Arab position and policy" following their shattering military defeat by Israel. Hussein refused to commit himself to direct peace negotia- tions with Israel and said there is no chance of peace while Is- rael occupies Arab territory. The king appeared on the ABC television program Issues and. Answers, taped last week in Amman. Hussein now is in New. York to present Jordan's position at the emergency ses- sion of the United Nations Gen- eral Assembly. Reg. Kmart Price $4.29 = 2 9 7 Special Discount e TUES. THRU FRI.
