[ THE OSHAWA TIMES, Thursdey, June 22, 1967 By RAIN PLAYED havoc with the ball games under lights in the area last night, plus the Ontario Lacrosse Associa- tion junior "A" game_ be- tween Oshawa Green Gaels and St. Catharines Lakesides at Port Dalhousie. Some of the teams were fortunate to get their games almost com- pleted before it started to pour. Rained out games make it difficult on the schedule- makers, who have to fill the- games in again. A WEEK FROM tonight the pick of the other eight teams in the OLA junior "A" cir- cuit will come to town to give the Green Gaels a test in the annual all-star. game for the aid of injured players. This could be a good oppor- tunity for someone to knock the Gaels over because from the looks of things, none of the clubs appear capable of posting a win against Jim Bishop's powerhouse. ONE STORY. making the rounds is that the OLA execu- tive has asked Bishop to move his club into senior competition next season to save the junior league. An- sother has Huntsville trying to lure their native sons home next season. They're just that, stories. Bishop has his eye on the senior picture, but 'realizes the club would need some experienced players to tackle clubs such as Peter- borough, Brooklin, Toronto and Brampton on a regular - basis. OSHAWA'S LASCO Steelers swing back into action to- night at Civic Auditorium against Orangeville Duf- ferins. Fresh from a resound- ing win over league leading Fergus Thistles in Fergus Tuesday, Dave Stewart, Glen SPORTS BEAT Eric Wesslby Times Sports Editor Lotton and company have their sights on an impressive finish this season, their first in senior "B" lacrosse comp- etition, Beating Thistles right in Fergus is no mean task, and it certainly will be a great morale booster for Steelers. PRESENCE OF Gaylord Powless and Jim Higgs in the Steelers' lineup caught many people by surprise, but no more so than the presence of Joe Krasnaj in the Gaels' lineup on Monday. A knee in- jury had kept Krasnaj inac- tive until Monday, but the big fellow appears to be set for the remainder of the season. And how long before Gaels drop Brian Thompson off the lineup? AN INTERESTING softball attraction comes to Oshawa next Wednesday when the California Cuties are here for an exhibition game against the Oshawa City and District Softball League All-Stars. I saw the Cuties perform about 10 years ago and it was a pleasing show, one the whole family enjoys. The game will be played at Alexandra Park, and tickets will be on sale at the park. TWO OSHAWA Legion Minor Baseball Association clubs head for tournaments this weekend. The bantam Le- gionnaires will compete in a tournament at Chesley, with Hamilton providing the oppo- sition in the first game. And the tyke. Legionnaires will compete in a one-day tourna- ment at Guelph Saturday. The pee wees will compete in the annual Niagara Falls tourney, July 1, with the mid- gets participating in the Lea- side tourney late in July and the juniors going to Thorold for a tournament in July. Late Rally Wins Game Woods Transport broke up a nip - and - tuck 1-1 tie with a seven - run rally in the bottom of the fifth inning, to defeat Foley's Plumbing 8-1, last night at North Oshawa, in their Civil Service Softball League fitxure. Heavy rains followed the. big rally, ending the game and can- celling the second fixture, which was to have been between Town and Country and Rundles. Bob McHugh pitched the win for Woods, giving up four hits and only one run, when rival) hurler Don Nicholls opened the third inning with a single, ad- vanced on a wild pitch and scored on Wes Keenan's solid hit. Nicholls, for Foley's was even less generous, giving up only two hits in the first four fram- es, one a homer by John Barker in the second stanza. With the score 1-1 and need- ing five innings for-an official game, Woods struck for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth frame.
