10 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Tuesdey, June 20, 1967 Won't Dear Ann Landers: For the pew 15 years I have been a usy executive. I do not agree with your stand that the person who telephones is obligated to give the secretary his name. I find it most annoying when I am asked 'Who is calling?" I have made it a rule never to give my name. Only one question is more ir- ritating and I have learned how to get past it in a hurry. When BR secretary asks, 'What is it you wish to speak to Mr. Doe about?" I reply, 'I'd like to know what his intentions are in regard to my wife." | I just thought you'd like to know how we less timid souls handle these self-important sec- retaries.--Sacramento Dear Sac: Thanks for the clue-in. The trouble with those cute answers is that you can only use them once. What do you do for an encore, Mister? Kingsway P.0., Lake of Bays Tel, 705-635-2221 LILT OF LACE --By Tracy Adrian There are meals that demand a fruit salad, or a mixture of greens and vinegar, but when your plans call for a meal to please a man, choose this sav- ory tomato mold for your salad. You'll find it's especially good with roasts, steaks, or hambur- er. It's not a light salad, for it's made with cream cheese and mayonnaise, Rather, it's rich in texture and savory with the flavor of bottled tomato juice and onion. For contrast, there are crisp bits of chopped celery and pickle. Make it ahead of time in a decorative mold or in small in- dividual molds for each salad. Always be sure it's served with the meat course. Sou'll find that women like this tomato mold, but there's something about it that appeals particularly to men. Tell the man of the family that you made it especially for him, and he'H enjoy it all the more. My reply in part: I know just how you feel about those neighbor children and their parents. What you say of their unkind and cruel ways Calling By Name Good For Business By ROBERTA ROESCH One way to increase your job opportunities is to remember who people are and call them by name. This approach to human rela- tionships is Timplicity itself, yet so many business people forget every day that recognizing cus- tomers by their name can play an important part in the success of thelr enterprise. "Actually I go out of my way to do business with people who are thoughtful in this respect,' Says oné woman, whose job keeps her on the road a great deal. "In my work in the home fur- nishings field, I travel meee the South and visit many mills, and I usually make my trips by car, so my schedules can be elastic. "Most of the time I stop over- night at the big motels on the highways. But on one occasion three years ago, I travelled 10 miles out of my way to investi- gate a country inn I had seen advertised on a billboard. GREETED BY NAME "T liked the place on my very first trip because it was s0 'warm. "I find then, so thoughtful that I take my business to that inn, and send other people there when- ever I possibly can." The sincere attention in this May be wholly true. Yet you seem to suppose that you should treat your twin boys more ci- villy. But you may not be ablé to find such ways in the man- ner you have in mind. Indeed, conditions may grow approach is always more wel- come than the cold impersonal treatment by people who never bother to remember your name. BECOMES ANNOYED "Frankly, I am so annoyed at being treated as if I didn't have a name," a second woman said, "that I'm currently taking my business away from one shop- keeper I've known for years. "It suddenly struck me," she went on, "that after all the money I have spent in his store, neither the clerks nor the owner could come up with a name for me if their next sale depended on it. "I'm tired of this nameless treatment. So from now on I'm doing business with people who are smart enough to remember who I am." You will serve yourself well to remember this smart ap- proach: that, as you recognize people by name and show that you know who they are, you will also increase your job op- portunities.
