Township To Crack Down On Dogs Running At Large BROOKLIN (Staff) -- A final warning has been given by the Whitby Township dog catcher, concerning the problem of the many dogs running loose in the township. Eugene Nickerson, RR 1, Brooklin, said Thursday that a number of warnings had been given to dog owners in the town- ship asking them to keep their dogs tied up or indoors.: He said that this was his final warning and that his future in- tention, as of June 1, was to take control of dogs still run- ning loose. He warned that impounded dogs can be destroyed 72 hours after being picked up if not claimed .by their owners, and added that all dogs must have a 1967 dog tag. Mr. Nickerson warned that the dog control authorities are pre- pared to take dog owners to court if they persist in letting their pets run loose. He added that the authorities don't want to turn the matter over to their solicitor because this would be both unpleasant, and expensive for the taxpayer. However he feels that this may be the only alternative left open to the department. Mr. Nickerson feels that with the increasing urbanization of the township it is impossible to allow dogs to run free.
