Return AT CIVIC AUDITORIUM Special note to dog lovers: The Ontario County Kennel Club will hold its annual inter- national championship dog show at the Oshawa Civie Audi- torium June 10 and 11. Top dog exhibitors from Can- ada and the United States will be on hand for the colorful show. The Ontario County Kennel Club is an organization consist- ing of members who are breed- ers of purebred dogs. In addi- tion to the promotion of pure- breds, their interests vary somewhat in this respect. The annual international champion- ship dog show at the auditor. jum is the event to be held after nearly a year of planning. dogs throughout the continent compete for points towards the title of a champion. Only pure- bred dogs are eligible. How- ever, beauty alone does not gain the judges' favor. A dog must be of sound health, have brains, brawn and possess an even tempérament and good disposition. If he is a bit of a show off -- this helps too. ADVICE GIVEN It is unfortunate, and this is a concern of all good dog breed- ers, that there are many delin- quent pets in every com. munity. Sometimes their own- ers are just irresponsible. Others cannot afford the money tion of a pet. People often fail to consid their responsibil ities to him and to the neigh- borhood. He may have grown too big, chasing cars and chil- dren, a big problem for a busy family. At the dog show spec- tators may ask questions and receive sound advice for care and feeding. Information and the advantages of enrolling your pet in the obedience school will also be available. Most conscientious breeders exhibit at shows throughout Canada, the U.S. and even far off places like Bermuda and England. This is the only way to learn of the good or bad faults in their breeding stock. In so doing it is their endeavor DUTIES OF CLUB OFFICIALS Ten months of plans are need- ed to prepare for the show. Monthly meetings are held and the club president, Mrs. J. Webbing (Brooklin, Ont.) sees that all goes smoothly, The treasurer Mrs. R. MacMurdo (Oshawa) handles the finances and minutes of each meeting recorded by Mrs. B.' Lundy. Show secretary Mrs. Ann Clark tends to official matters as Show dates, appointing the judges and acceptance of entry fees. Trophies are obtained by Mrs. M. Kichko of Oshawa. This is done by Mr. John Web- bing (Brooklin) and he will settle any dispute should one arise between the judge and the exhibitor. Sometimes it is necessary to have the veterin- arian examine a dog that the judge may find some fault with. This year Dr. Ellen Brown of Willowdale will officiate at the show, Any dog show may seem to be nothing but complete bed- lam, Certainly there is a good deal going on.
