§ THE OSHAWA TIMES, Monday, May 15, 1967 FOLLOWING OUR rather expansive discourse the other day on, the topic of Oshawa's Centennial Sports Celebrities Dinner, we have received a polite suggestion that the distant side of the picture was a little neglected and that certainly, not all the "sports celebrities" are confined to the masculine side of the line. It is so gratifying and "morale - boosting to find out that the fannies, as well as the fans, are reading our "Menu" that we hasten to make amends. The "Sports Celebri- ties Dinner" is a stag event but certainly there's no short- age of female talent, when you scan the list of special '"thead table'? guests and find some of Canada's women's champions, and other provin- cial titlists, in a variety of athletic achievement. NANCY GREENE, Can- ada's 1967 winner of the World Cup of Skiing and one of the country's all-time greats in the popular winter sports, has to be rated as No. 1 in the list of female "Celeb- rities" who will be on hand. However, Nancy and Mrs. Matt (Thelma) Leyden, who will be along with "Mr. Cen- tennial Sportsman," will not feel lonely, since there'll be other "roses" present. An- other Nancy, Oshawa's own Nancy (Murrall) Mackay, who as a member of the women's relay team, won a_ bronze medal for Canada, only Osh- awan to achieve this Olympic Games honor (1948), heads the group of local or area guests. Beverley Boys, sensational Pickering youngster who won medal honors in the British Empire games last summer and "Pam" Miller, of this city, 1966 Ontario senior amateur golf champion, are two other standouts on the distaff list. OSHAWA GOLF CLUB has dual representation in the big dinner tomorrow night. Along SPORTS MENU By Geo. H. Campbell Associate Sports Editor Jack, Ann Gay and Effie Hezzelwood, skipy being the members of this rink. Five-pin bowling prowess brings Bow- manville into the spotlight too, Sharlene Cain and Con- nie Bradley, Canadian senior girls' doubles champions and Doris Joll, Canada's senior women's 5-pin. champion of Canada, all from Bowman- ville, will be on hand, along with another, Mary Jane Oke, who with partner Victor Iving, won the Canadian Junior Doubles figure - skating title. And that about completes "'the gals" who will grace the event. No mam, "Ruby" Gold- stein doesn't qualify!
