14 THE OSHAWA TIMES, Monday, Mey 15, 1967 Dear Ann Landers: I know you are originally from Sioux City, Iowa. Will you please pre- vent another Sioux City girl trom doing something which is utterly ridiculous? I do not know the young lady personally but I am enclosing a clipping from the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald. girl I am worried about is Miss Iowa, As you can see from the clipping, Miss Iowa plans to be married to a young man who is studying for the ministry. Now the next part is what worries me. She said, and I quote: 'Singing is my major talent. My fiance and I are going to sing Because before the ceremony, we will sing The Wedding Prayer during the ce- emony and The Lord's Prayer} after we are pronounced man and wife--before we kiss." Maybe Miss Iowa didn't read those letters in your column from the goofs who sang at their own weddings. I hate to see this lovely girl do something dumb. Please tell her not to. -- A Sister Iowan Dear Sister Iowan: The girl did not write to me, and I would not be so presumptuous as to tell her anything. What I said about people sing- ing at their own weddings still goes, but this is a matter of personal opinion. If Miss Iowa ANN LANDERS It's More Ridiculous . The mother of five children doesn't have any choice, but it might help women who are married to mama's boys to know that a mama's boy is rarely a cheater. They have a Best Dear Best: You are right--a mama's boy is rarely cheater, and while no one gets the op- portunity to choose his particu- lar brand of trouble, your letter might be a comfort to Irving's wife and to others who share her problem. Thanks for writ- ing. Dear Ann Landers: Recently someone wrote and asked why an eight-year-old boy who has everything a youngster could ask for would go into the purse of a woman visitor and steal $5. Now I'd like to ask another question. Why would a 57-year- old woman who is a respected lot to be thankful for.--Second Q Take along on a picnic, seashore safari, tourist trip or hike used to mean some few years back extra gar- py 4 COLORFUL CASHMERE cashmere knits. She and her breezy, ener- getic consort Prince Bernhard have felt the Dutch throne shake ominously several times in recent years over contro- versies involving the royal family, but Juliana is so widely beloved that it has been said even her republican- minded subjects wotld want her as president. Now 57, the bespectacled Juliana has ruled Holland since the 1948 abdication of her mother Queen Wilhelmina, who died in 1962. She's a no- nonsense sovereign who dis- likes excessive formality, and one of the first things she did was abolish curtsies at court. Wilhelmina used to complain in her youth that she lived in a cage. Juliana has taken care to preserve an informal fam- ily life at Soestdijk Palace, a former hunting - lodge in the heart of the Dutch country- side, In middle age, she is still a keen skier and swimmer. The young Juliana had a wide-ranging education, study- ing law, literature, philosophy and hydraulic engineering at the University of Leyden, later attended by her daughters Beatrix and Margriet. When Nazi troops invaded Holland in May, 1940, the royal family went into exile -- Wil- helmina and Bernhard in Eng- land and Juliana and her two small daughters in Canada. The Earl of Athlone, then Gov- ernor-General, was a cousin of Wilhelmina. BORN IN CANADA Juliana settled into a home in Ottawa's Rockcliffe Park where Beatrix later attended primary school, picking up a trace of a Canadian accent, and young Irene, born in 1939, attended nursery school. Bernhard, heading the Dutch resistance movement from London, made several trips to see his family. In Jan- uary, 1943, a third daughter, Margriet, was born in Ot- tawa's Civic Hospital, one wing of which was declared extra - territorial by the Ca- nadian government to solve the problem of the baby's na- tionality. Juliana and her family re- turned home after the German surrender in May, 1945. In those five years a special link had been forged between Can- ada and The Netherlands, still expressed annually in gifts of Dutch tulips to the city of Ot- | tawa In the 1950s Juliana made a | nostalgic journey back to Can- ada, during which she toured Ontario's Dutch settlements. Sadness struck the family in 1947 when Juliana's fourth daughter, Maria Christina, was born almost blind. The tragedy of 'Marijke' so af- world, with a personal fortune estimated at $600,000,000--Jul- iana turned somewhat mystical as a result of this experience, becoming fascinated by pseu- do-scientific lore of all kinds. Wilhelmina used to say of least one major overseas sales trip each year, pushing Dutch exports with a hard - selling flair far removed from Prince Philip's regal showing - the- flag tours.
