(CP)--Police released a man after question- ing Wednesday night following what they believe may have been an attempt to kill a Wind- sor man by dynamite earlier in the day. Police said a etick of dyna- mite attached by wires to the ignition system of a car owned by Fred Bigness, 56, did not explode when the car's fan sey- ered one of the wires. Mr. Bigness, part-owner of a service station and an employee of a fire equipment manufac- turing firm, told police there were wires leading from the explosive to the car's ignition system. More than 2,800 applicants were turned down last year but according to Charles Tutt, dean of engineering, this situa- tion will be eased somewhat by expansion of the institute in Flint, Michigan. Dean Tutt outlined the work- ings of the institute saying that a nine-month program of con- tinuing education is now in its third year covering engineer- ing, materials, processes, com- puters and control systems. The institute, in existence since 1931, claims comparable standards with other United States schools and works on the basis of a co-operative sys- tem with GM divisions sponsor- ing all students, Of last year's 2,942 appli- cants the institute could take Of Store Hours KITCHENER (CP)--About 40 Ontario municipalities have for a year been discussing plans for uniform store hours and holiday closings, it was learned Tuesday. The discussions follow an ini- tiative from the city of Hamil- ton. The discussions were re- vealed when Kitchener retail store owners Tuesday night sub- mitted to city council a petition asking for a bylaw covering uni- form hours of closing for busi- ness days and holidays. M. W. Turner, secretary of the Water- loo, Ont., Chamber of Com- merce, said the submission was "a bit premature." ing on water would be co-ordin- ated under a single board re- sponsible to a single cabinet minister. The board would maintain a standing inventory of water re- quirements. With co-operation of the provinces, national anti- pollution standards would be worked out and enforced. At federal invitation, prov- inces would join the senior government in developing a na- tional attack on water problems.
