NEW YORK (AP) -- It's moulting season for both | birds and girls and so the Watchers has issued guide- lines for its 5,000 members. They are: Don't ogle. When passing a girl going in the same direction, don't | turn the head around and Stare. Don't use binoculars -- ex- cept at races. Don't whistle, pinch, whis- per or commit any other overt act. Maintain eye-ball control at all times. "We haven't any particular season," said Don Sauers of Eastchester, N. J., founder of the society. "In fact, some of our best card-carrying mem- bers think ski pants in Ver- mont are sexier than bikinis in Miami or mini - skirts in Los Angeles. "But this is the moulting season when the girls all take off their heavy over-clothing and get closer to nature. Our spring season starts the mid- die of April. At this time Fifth Avenue between 42nd Street and Central Park be- comes the girl watchers' para- dise of the world." The society started as a gag out of the head of Sauers and grew into an institution. Sauers, 44, father of five, was sitting around at lunch with some Madison Avenue pals about 10 years ago and a hip-swinging girl swung by the window. Sauers was sud- denly struck with an idea. "Bird watchers have their jown organization -- --the Audu- | bon Society. I suggested there are more girly watchers than bird watchers, Girls are more fun to watch They all agreed," The society now occupies quite lush, four - storey head- quarters on 38th Street just off Park Avenue. It has members in 45 states and several for- eign countries. It has its own guide beok, written by Sauers; its own theme song, Music to Watch Girls By, a popular ditty used by a soft drink firm; a lapel pin, just like the Elks, and a nine-article constitution. The first article says, "There is nothing in the world more beautiful than a_ girl, especially not a bird." An- other says, 'A girl doesn't have to know how to count to be beautiful." The society is an affiliate of The Professional Sports Man- agement Corp. "'After all, there is no greater sport than girl watching," says the cure rent president, Ray Baur, 40, of Westport, Conn., father. af six, NEED EYE CONTROL The society assesses only a $1 fee for life membership, This barely pays for the lapel pin and literature. The parent organization takes care of the rent. Sauers says the purpose of the organization is to improve the climate of girl watching. "A survey shows that the girls, 100 per cent of them, like to be watched," the foune der added. "If a watcher is flagrant, the object, like a bird, gets frightened. We teach eye-ball dexterity. We want the girl to know she is being watched and to like it --but for it not to be obvious." Sauers said one of the rules is not to watch girls in res- taurants. "That's like watch- ing birds in a z00," he said, "They should be watched in their natural habitat--walking on the streets." Watchers are not supposed to concentrate on any part of the anatomy -- face, legs or hair. "We try to watch and appreciate the total girl," Sauers said. The introduction of mini- skirts has hampered rather than stimulated girl watch- ing, President Baur insists. "When a girl in a mini sits down, it's hard to remain + poised and objective," he said. BASEBALL STARS By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Pitching -- Ferguson Jenkins, Cubs, permitted just three hits and struck out 10 in winning his third game of the season in Chi- cago's 3-0 win over New York Mets. Batting--Ron Hunt, Dodgers, drove in four runs with a run- scoring single and a_ bases- loaded double as Los Angeles beat Atlanta Braves 6-0. WILL PLAY CUBA MONTREAL (CP) --Bill Simpson, president of the Cana- dian Soccer Association, said Thursday a Canada-Cuba two- Grubb's Three Wins Makes Him Leader. FORT ERIE, Ont. (CP)--Ap- prentice jockey Richard Grubb picked up three wins Thursday at Fort Erie to take the lead for the riding title at this meet- ing. Simpson said it is in- tended to play both games within a seven-day period with the week of June 19-24 being favored.
