Would vitamin shots or other medica- tion help?--V.E. A tic is an involuntary con- traction of a muscle or group of muscles. While we commonly call it a "nervous tic,"' the word tic is sufficient. It always is a nervous phenomenon. It can take many forms: Blinking an eye, shaking the head, shrugging a shoulder, a twitch of the face. I knew one man, an exceptionally fine scholar but also shy, who used to get into all sorts of embar- rassment .even when a young man because he continually blinked one eye, and the ladies were variously pleased, insulted or puzzled because he "kept winking at me." There also was a physician who developed a tic in his eye- lids whenever his dosage of thyroid was a bit high. It in- creased tension. Both fatigue and extreme tension can cause these muscle twitchings or tics. They also can be a habit, with the same muscle persistently responding Vitamins will not prevent tics, and I hesitate to suggest seda- Channel 12--Peterborough | 9--Meta 11,25 P.M. 7 VIAIL [OTR EERIOISIVIE Channel 11--Hami | 7--Bullwinkle 4-$kiing PS 1, Church and Ed prying |AIGIOIN[EMMDIRIAIMIS Shonnet Scnecmeser | Scone Nobis -- ooo Person ECE PERS MEA y hurt ervice , SIC IE Channe! 7--Buttale 24--Paim Sunday Service| '[--Mark soot 5. MOLNER, MD 11:00 PLM, 36-12--Nature of Things |r yoynrm PM ; N49--News 5.0 P.M. licit's A Match Dear Dr. Molner: I am 63 and|tives. Rather, try to take note selec News 7--Movie &--Eye Guess have had a nervous tic in my|of the circumstances under which a tic appears. You already have noted fa- tigue and too much reading (meaning fatigue of a certain type). If you learn to stop work or stop reading a little sooner it should take care of a good bit of the problem. Indeed, the tic may be a blessing in dis- guise, an automatic signal to warn that you are becoming overtired. Some unpleasant situation, since it increases emotional tension, sometimes triggers a tic, and if you can identify some pattern of such incidents, and resolve your attitude toward the irritation, the tic may disap- pear. These are simple remedies, but are effective. Dear Dr. Molner: I am 17 and put on too much weight. Now I am on a good diet but am worried about stretch marks. Will they go away? A lot of friends have wondered the same thing but no one seems to know what to do about them.--R.B. Stretch marks do not go away. Once they appear, they are permanent. However, the reddish or purplish color will fade gradually, and in time the marks will not be so noticeable. There is nothing to do about them short of plastic surgery which would be expensive. Dear Dr. Molwer: Mrs, H.B., RS . aie cael TO THE FREQUENCY OF THE AROUND HERE, MR diamond break (3-1 or 2-2), so MUSIC/7-- IT'LL. SEEK OUT LEfetass you win the club in dummy and TH CORRIGAN. IF YOU'LL return a low diamond. When East shows out, |carding a heart, you then have to start worrying about the slam because what a moment before seemed like an easy hand to make has suddenly changed complexion and be- come a real challenge. Obviously, you must play the ace or queen at this point. If you finesse the queen, which would seem to be the natural thing to do, you have eleven jtricks available -- two spades, \four hearts, two diamonds and |three clubs. Your twelfth trick, in such |case, would have to come from a two-way spade finesse--which |you would have to guess right to avoid coming home lame. But if you reject the diamond finesse and go up with the ace, }you can guarantee the contract jagainst any and all possible |complications. Let's assume you play the ace jand lead a low diamond to- |wards the jack. What can West |do? If he goes up with the king, |\that would give you the rest of the diamonds and more tricks jthan you would know what to jdo with. | West consequently plays low and you win with the jack. Again you have eleven sure tricks, but with an important difference. You can now afford to take a spade finesse and lose it to East because no return from him can harm you, You gain a trick while losing a spade to the queen, but the trick you gain gives you the crucial one you're looking for. At trick four, you therefore lead a club to the ace and fol- low this with a low spade to the nine. As it happens, West has the queen, which later falls on the ace, and you wind up mak- ing seven notrump. dis- Housing Seen Public Utility TORONTO (CP) -- Control- ler Margaret Campbell said housing should be considered a public utility like hydro, water and sewers. "We provide these other utili- \ties because people need hydro, water and sewage,"' she said during a panel discussion Thursday night. "But we do not seem to be able to provide the housing that is so neces- sary. "IT wish we could disabuse ourselves of the idea that ev- eryone who needs public hous- ing is a multi-problem family-- it just isn't so." Municipalities should not be jin the public housing business. It should be left-to such groups as the Ontario Housing Corp., @ branch of the provincial gov- ernment, Miss Campbell said. SALLY'S SALLIES "Zou handle our divorce an® 'we'll both save money." who has a fear of the dentist, sounds much like me, I hadn't gone for 12 years, but finally admitted to my husband that I was afraid. He made the appointment for me and told the dentist I was afraid. He gave me a little red capsule to take the night be- fore, and always gives me an early appointment so I don't have to worry all day. I am almost through having my teeth fixed now. Dentists are wonderful, and so are M.D.'s.--Mrs. I.B. Note to 'Feet': I doubt if go- ing barefoot at home can make any difference in the size of your feet. It certainly won't make them longer. Anyway, 914 is not excessive for a girl even if some of your friends boast of being size seven. It could be that some are squeezing into too small a shoe, and will pay for it later with bunions, corns or other foot defects, dien knac disa: bloox telex Abot way! banc likel size
