YOUR HEALTH Dear Dr. Molner: I noticed blood in my urine and was sent to a kidney specialist who took x-rays and found that I have minor pyelonephritis on the right side, and a cystocele. He advised me to drink a lot of water, so I drink about eight glasses a day. Is this enough? What does cystocele mean? Is it serious?--Mrs, J, 8. That probably is enough wa- ter--but the proper person to ask is the doctor treating you. Cystocele means that the | |bladder has sagged somewhat, and instead of emptying com- pletely, it retains some urine. This provides an environment in which germs can flourish. The risk of infection then moving up into the kidneys is the principal danger in cysto- cele--and that evidently is just what has happened in your case, since you developed pye- lonephritis, which is the most frequent of all types of kidney trouble. Surgical correction of cysto- cele is not difficult, and having it done is one good means of protecting the kidneys. Dear Dr. Molner: I would like to answer Mrs. D. L. and her 43 club members. I had a complete hysterectomy last June. I have enjoyed sexual life more since the operation than in many Noticed Blood In Urine Minor Pyelonephritis -- By JOSEPH G. MOLNER, MD sible for a 19-year-old male to become sterile? Can it be cured:--G, S. Possible, yes, but not com- mon. Mumps is a_ frequent cause. Otherwise, whether it can be corrected depends on the cause, Dear Dr. Molner: Would you explain the difference between adult rheumatic fever and arth- ritis?--M. D. L. Arthritis (there are various kinds) is an affliction of the joints, pain, stiffness, . some- times swelling and deformity. Rheumatic fever (whether in childhood or adulthood) is a disease caused by streptococcus infection. It is quite common for some of the joints to become inflamed, but that is a by- product of the disease, not its main danger. The disease inflames tissues other than in the joints, too, and heart. Scar tissue can occur, interfering with proper action of the heart valves. In: short: Rheumatic fever may cause "'rheumatic" pain in the joints, temporarily, but that isn't its main effect. Arthritis is specifically an ail- ment of the joints and does not afflict the heart. SET SKATING RECORD 12 THE OSHAWA TIMES, BRIDGE By B. You don't see many hanéls like this one held by South, brut it actually occurred in the Life Masters pair championship 'in Toronto in 1964. The hand was played at 10 tables and it is doubtful that any two bidding sequences were exactly alike. At one table, South on the bidding shown, inched himself into four hearts, got doubled, and made the contract with two overtricks when he ruffed tthe opening club Jead and led a jow heart towards the jack. His score of plus 790 was well above the average North-South result. Here, also, the declarer made twelve tricks by starting the trumps with a low one towards the jack. Those players who arrived at six diamonds or six hearts and failed to make the safety play invariably went down one when they lost two heart tricks. A few pairs arrived at seven diamonds, and, in an effort to make 'the grand slam by ruff- ing a heart in dummy, went down two. Perhaps the most astonishing sequence of all occurred at one table where South, generally acknowledged to be.one of the best players in the world, was left at the post when the bid- ding went: North East South 'Wesd Pass 1 1 (Pass Pass Hol nd ; DIES.
