He was in his 75th year. A masonry contract, Mr. Underwood was a lifelong resident of the town. Born in Whitby, the de- ceased was a son of the late John and Christine Underwood. He received his education in the Whitby public and high schools and was married in All Saints Anglican Church in 1914. A member of St. Mark's United Church, Mr. Underwood was active in many phases of life of the community. He had been a member of the Whitby Progressive Conservative Asso- ciation for 58 years, a member of the Whitby Court of Revision for 15 years and served for 10 years as assessor and relief officer. He was a former mem- ber of the Whitby Lions Club. Mr. Underwood is survived by his wife, the former Phyl- lis F. Campbell; and four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Rowe of Toronto, Miss Marion Under- wood of London, Ont., Mrs. J. Crawforth (Geraldine) of Whit- by and Mrs. N. Briggs (Louise) of Rosemere, Quebec.
