The Reverend Brown was dean of men at Kingsway College, then held a pastorate in Sudbury prior to going to Minnesota. Mr. Brown, 90 years old, Jan- uary 16, was born in the town- ship of Torbolton, Ontario, in the county of Carlton, in 1877. He came to Oshawa in 1919 just after the First World War and settled on a farm on Townline road. He, with Mrs. Brown, moved to their present home on Rockeliffe avenue four years ago. All five children were home for their father's 90th birthday. Besides Wesley there were Reu- ben, Mrs. Harold Chamberlain (Lucy), and Mrs. Charles Potter (Elsie), all of whom live in Oshawa, and Dr. Thomas Brown who practices in Willowdale, Ontario. All but two of the 14 grandchildren and six great- grandchildren were also pres- ent. On Sunday, the day before Mr. Brown's birthday, 32 mem- bers of the family gathered for a family party and a_ buffet luncheon. It was at this time that the huge package was pre- sented to him. A large family birthday cake expressed con- congratulations by telephone on his 9th birthday, while his daughter, Mrs. Nonagenarian Open House On Monday evening more than 50 relatives, neighbors, and friends attended the open house held to honor Mr. Brown. The guest book was presided over by Mrs. - Biy, and _ refreshments served by Mrs. Brown, daughters, and daughter-in-law. ; Reuben Brown read a poem he had written for the occasion giving the history of his father's family. Mr. Brown, an Irishman with the Irish wit still shining forth, doesn't let age, nor the fact that he has no sight in one eye, and limited vision in the other, hold him down. He not only attends the College Park Seventh-day Adventist Church, across the street from his home, every week, but also attends the prayer meeting and _ vespers services, walking to these ap- pointments. Even though he is registered with the blind so- ciety, and can see only hazily from a short distance, he spends much of his time reading, and without glasses. One of his mest recent trea- sures is a book written by a niece, Florence Hamilton, a missionary in Thailand, in which she reviews the history of the family, and her experi- ences in the mission field. The morning after his open house, Mr. Brown exclaimed "I am very happy. I have much to be happy for. The Lord has brought me through the ups and downs of life, and my children were all home for my birth- gratulations to Husband, Father, Grandpa, and Great- Grandpa. day." KEEP IN TRIM Rhythm Slimming Routine Tums Bulges Into Bygones By IDA JEAN KAIN Teen - agers, you can turn bulges into bygones in as little as 30 days--if you whip into briks action. The letters from many of you young ladies la- ment your weight worries. Most of you should change your tune, you're more out of shape than overweight. One 16-year-old writes: "I am a total mess--I could cry. I weigh 126 pounds for five-feet, 2% inches. My hips are 38 inches around and my thighs-- I wouldn't dare to put a tape measure around them!" Another writes: "I'm 5' 2", 16, and I feel like a blimp. I SOCIAL NOTICES ENGAGEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Harry B. ENGAGEMENT Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kemp of Keene, Ontario, wish to an- have fat where no one wants it. I weigh 125 pounds, but I was 130 pounds and I'l) probably be up there again next weekend. If I don't continually stuff food into my mouth I feel like I'm going to die of starvation. Now you've heard my problem, what do you suggest?" Get a move on! That's. what I'd suggest for all out-of-shape teen-agers. Put yourself on a rhythm slimming routine of daily exercise and have fun shaping up. Fat piles on the muscle lazy areas 'where there is a nice, quiet undisturbed parking spot. So, disturb it. In a matter of a few weeks, pre- cision exercises will work sheer magic. COMPULSIVE ACTION Now a word to the teen-ager who is "'starving to death." You claim, dramatically, that if you don't stuff you'll die. This sounds as if you feel you are a compulsive eater. You are not If you were, you would be a heavyweight. You are only 10 pounds above ideal--largely on the hips. You have no great problem. This hunger you feel is practically normal at your age. Then why those hips? Too little exercise. The answer varies of course with each individual fabric but for this trend setter, a seal fur-like deep pile fabric of 100 per Nent orlon, the treatment is simple. According to the fabric manufactuer, it needs little or no care and doesn't have to be stored during the warm months. However, the coat must not be steamed or pressed, must be cleaned by real fur cleaners and after exposure to rain or snow, it must be shaken gently and allowed to dry naturally. In sizes-6 to 16, the. coat comes either in black or brown, has a flat- tering roll collar, brass but- tons on the double and welt- edged pockets. --By Tracy Adrian sessed with trying to be ultra thin.
