F Board Asked To Halt Buy HAMILTON (CP) -- Oppo- nents of fluoridation of the water supply, approved by a 1,195-vote margin Dec. 6, Monday asked board of control to reconsider purchase of the necessary equip- ment because a petition to force another plebiscite is being cir- culated. The request was refused. David A. Stevenson, chairman of a citizens' anti-fluoridation committee, said 10,000 signa- tures have been obtained for the petition. It requires 18,000 to force a new vote. Mayor Victor Copps said coun- cil has no option but to act on the wishes of the majority. Pact Reached In Libel Suit NEW YORK (CP) --Out-of- court settlement of a libel suit against Seven Arts Productions Ltd., Toronto, and its president, Eliot Hyman, has been an- nounced by Seven Arts. *The suit, filed in Canada last year by Louis A. Chesler, Cana- dian financier who now lives in the Bahamas, was reported set- tled for $265,000. Toronto's Mount Sinai Hospital is to bene- fit from the settlement. Chesler, who grew up in Peterborough, Ont., sought $21,- 000,000 damages because of al- legedly defamatory statements in a prospectus that formed part of a registration statement by the company with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Com- mission. Chesler was founder and former chairman of Seven Arts, which licenses motion pictures for television use. The complaint alleged that the inclusion of certain state- ments in the prospectus im- paired Chesler's ability to ob- tain credit and injured his rep- utation. As part of the settlement plan outlined here, Seven Arts would pay Chesler's legal fees of $40,000. The company and its president would each donate $50,000 over the next two years to Mount Sinai Hospital. Ladies' sd .ameswoot CARDIGANS A Division of the S. $.
