At a meeting of the Area 1 Board Monday night it was de- cided that all 1,331 students in the north and east section of the Township would learn Canada's second language. However, the board has no qualified French teachers, and, it does not intend to hire any. The entire French program will be taught through Educa- tion Department approved rec- ords. Four additional record play- ers will be purchased by the board to supply the schools which were without record play- ers, To further the visual aid pro- gram, the board also decided to purchase radios for every classroom and a television set for each of the 11 schools. Each schol will also be equipped with a movie projector and screen. Board Administrator Lloyd Johnston said the board is try- ing to set higher education standards for students with the better visual aid program. KINDERGARTEN Area 1 Administrator Johns ton has sent about 200 letters to parents with kindergarten age children asking for their An- terest in kindergarten classes for their youngsters. The board has decided that if the majority of parents want kindergarten for their young- sters the board will supply the necessary facilities. The majority of the letters are expected to be returned sues, mittee meeting will likely be} held next week to decide the} question. | Administrator Johnston said| The Ajax Hydro was con- that if the board decided to have kindergarten class it would either have to build four new classrooms or re-open some of the schools closed last summer. He said another alternative would be to build a senior pub- lic school and in this way make space available in existing pub- lic schools throughout the area.
