Bleak Future Foreseen For Big British Dailies TORONTO (CP)--Lord Thom- son says the future for most of the mammoth: national . daily newspapers in Britain is bleak, with possibly only four or five of them surviving. The Canadian-born publisher arrived in Toronto Saturday for a month's rest at the home of his daughter. In an interview, Lord Thom- son said that of the 11 major dailies in Britain, seven are losing money and the economics of the business dictate that only four, possibly five, can survive. He said much the same situ- ation exists among the Sunday newspapers and concluded: "Obviously, there are many national newspapers Britain," He said that advertising rev- enues comprise 50 to 75 per icent of the newspapers' income and the advertising dollar is spread too thin.
