The statement' said the mer- ger will be effected by means of an. exchange of a new issue of Consolidated preferred shares plus warrants, or rights to buy, for the Class A and com- mon shares of Bathurst. On the Montreal Stock Ex- change Thursday, Consolidated closed unchanged at 38, . but Bathurst was up 1% at 27%. News of the merger was not issued to the press until after the close of trading. Consolidated paper which spe- clalizes in production of news- paper and paper bags had net sales of $131,022,129 last year while the smaller Bathurst com- pany, which concentrates on other packaging products, had net sales of $51,136,450. Mr. Hobart said in his state- ment that a special general meeting of Consolidated share- holders has been called for Nov. 15 when they will be asked to approve a share issue.
