Maxwell, 52, says he is giving them up to save expenses at his isolated home on Sandaig, the island near Skye off the west coast of Scotland which he called Camusfearne in his book Otters To Zoo go to the new Aberdeen zoo in late fall or early winter. Maxwell says he pays only a nominal rent for his island home which is still, as described in Ring of Bright Water, furnished mostly with what he has built himself from driftwood. and or- ange crates.
