to JQ THE OSHAWA TIMES, Wednesdey, July 13, 1966 Marshall Shines As Gaeis Down 'Township 'By DON McKINNON Times Sports Writer "It looked but didn't feel like Christmas and Mery Marshall 'wasn't giving many goals away as presents when Oshawa 'Green Gaels clipped red-sweat- ered Toronto Township 15-8 last night in a Junior 'A' lacrosse game, played in Port Credit, Marshall blocked a total of 36 shots, half of them in the first. period, and allowed only eight goals, a total of 11 goals in two games, to be picked as one of the three stars of last night's encounter. Marshall was also chosen as the first team goalie for the Jr, A all-stars playing here Sunday night. Conditioning seemed to be the deciding factor as the Green Gaels scored five goais in each stanza while 'Township' scored four in the first frame, and two in each of the remaining per- fods. Oshawa kept up a steady Pace throughout the match but Toronto Township began to slow down to a walk in the last 20 minutes of play. FOUR MORE FOR JONES Ross Jones scored four goals awa, while Brian Thompson and Phil Clayton scored three goals each. Clayton added three assists for another six-point night, Single markers were scored by Neil Armstrong, Jim Higgs, Dwight Davies, Gaylord Powless and Doug Sutton. Higgs and Don Stinson assisted on two goals each. Powless assisted on five goals. Three goals were scored by Al Gordiner of PCO's while singletons were chaiked- up" by Peter Hawke, Bob Sicinski, Paul Legree, Bob Chandler and Barry Salovara, Salovara add- ed two assists to his singleton. Oshawa, who seem destined to meet Toronto Township in the semi-finals, played extreme- ly well against the strong PCO club. During the first two per- iods Toronto kept the pressuré jon Gaels, breaking up many |power play attempts at scoring. {Roger Williams, PCO goalie, lhelped his club considerably as |he stopped several breakaways jwith sharpshooters like Jones, |Clayton, Powless and Higgs ringing his doorstep. Green Gaels' power play was jagain effective as nine of the one-man advantage. Defensive- ly, Oshawa penalty killers, Higgs, Jones and Powless lim- ited PCO's to two power play goals, JUST TALKING -- After a one-game rest Gaylord Powless came back to up his point total and league lead to 138 points on 49 goals and 89 assists... The National League did that, 2-1_in..10 innings, -- But in Tuesday's 37th All- Star Game it wasn't better pitching and it wasn't the pow- erful NL sluggers who took command.
