Situated at the south end of the town, in an area formerly known as Windsor Bay, St. John's was first opened for wor- ship on Sunday, July 5, 1846, and has been in continuous use including the choir, is regarded as a fine example of the smali-type country church situatea in a splendi town, is in many ways an inter- esting repository of the develop- ing history of the whole area. The oldest surviving headstone iantedates the church by several years, and many others carry es which have been per- s for example, Annis, Henry, yordon, Frances. Bank Act Revision Test For Finance Minister Sharp By JAMES NELSON OTTAWA CP)--On-again off again revision of the Bank Act) is off again, this time in cir- cumstances which point to a real test of authority facing Fi- nance Minister Sharp. The long-delayed revision of the basic law governing Can- ada's chartere' banks was to have been introduced next Mon- day, according to a government announcement Wednesday. But some time Thursday-a de- cision was made to peste it again. The chartered banks have been running- for more than two years on periodic ex- tensions to the 1954 law which was due for revision in 1964. No official explanation was given for the further delay. A finance department source said that while no new. date has been set, it is hoped the bill will be introduced Jater next week, or at least before Parliament ad- journs for summer recess early in July. Other sources indicate that a fundamental division of opinion has been opened again hetween Mr. Sharp and his cabinet sup- porters on the one hand, and a dissident group outside the cabinet which includes Walter Gordon, former finance minis-, ter, and Maurice Lamontagne,} former state secretary. Mr. Sharp has been reported willing to accept, at Jeast in part, the recommendation of the 1964 Portgr royal commis- sion on--barfking and finance} that the present ceiling of six! per cent be lifted off the inter- est rate the banks may charge on loans. The banks have argued that the interest ceiling prevents them from competing effec- tively with trust and loan com-/| panies.
